Certainly can't say I'm a fan. Then again, I can't say that I'm a fan of most American car designs in the past few years. I gotta go with the Italians, Germans, and Japanese.

Wow, I sound like I'm a member of the Axis powers circa WWII.

Japanese and German :-) Honda, BMW, Ferrari, and Toyota are at the top of my list right now, with Toyota being my favorite seeing as how I've been drooling like mad over the Tundra for the past couple weeks.

I don't think Chevy even makes Luminas anymore. Chris can correct me on this if it's wrong when he returns from Orlando but I believe the Lumina was replaced by the Monte Carlo. Not just in NASCAR, but in the Chevy line as a whole.

The Lumina and Monte Carlo were exactly the same with the exception that the Monte was a 2-door and the Lumina was a 4-door.  No other difference to the best of my knowledge.

You sure about that? I always thought that the Monte Carlo was a more race-inspired car. Different design, bigger engine, etc. I could be wrong.

Maybe in terms of internals and things, but I think body-structure and chassis, etc, they were the same.

I think you might be mistaken. The Monte Carlo is a muscle car. I thought it was. Check these links:

http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/chevrolet-montecarlo/chevrolet-montecarlo.shtml
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2249

I think you may be confusing the Beretta with the Monte Carlo. The Beretta's the next one up from the Cavalier, between the Cavalier and the Camaro. Brandon had one before he got his Grand Am if you remember it at all.

Edit: Although that second link is titled Lumina/Monte Carlo...

Edit2: Maybe the Monte Carlo name was brought back into use as the coupe version of the Lumina. So maybe we're both right.

My first car was an '85 Monte ;)  I was just under the impression that the Lumina nearing its end was very close to the Monte Carlo in its structure.  Could be wrong though :x

Theoretically. As far as I can tell, the Monte Carlo was a muscle car back in the 70s but it's also a coupe based on the Lumina platform. I guess it either went away and came back like the Nova did or morphed from the muscle car design into the mid-80s style. Who knows.

I believe Chevy had been using Monte Carlo for NASCAR since almost the very beginning but then sometime in the late 80s or early 90s, Chevy phased out the Monte Carlo. The only other car they had in their lineup that fulfilled NASCAR's requirements was the Lumina. When Monte Carlo came back in the mid-90s, Chevy dumped the Lumina and the Monte Carlo came back.

BTW, the Charger has been used in NASCAR before. Richard Petty won many a race in the Charger.

Just as a note, the Charger is also a Dodge concept car that will soon be approaching mass production.  Its non-racing counterpart looks badass.  I saw it at the Omaha car show last winter.  It was a dark red, real sleek, big engine, though it had four doors... the design was odd in that from far away it looked like a big 2 door sports coupe, a la the new Pontiac GTO, but when you got closer you could see the extra doors.  If they put the new Charger out in mass, it will be a tough choice for me between that and a new Mustang GT (those new stangs are damn sweet).  That NASCAR model looked horrendous though.

*thumbs up* I may end up owning a Toyota, Honda, or whatever, but the Vette always has and always will be my favorite car. I'll just never own one :-(

The new Vette looks pretty mean and sleek. The new Mustang looks pretty cool, too

Agreed. Both the Vette and the Mustang look good. I also really like the GT.

GT is nice, too. I think the Mustang and the GT would be the only Ford products I would ever get. Even though Ford owns Jaguar and Aston Martin, I don't group those two companies in the whole Ford-despising set
