Name the LAST 2 albums you obtained... not yer faves but the last two period. here's mine:

Clutch: Blast Tyrant, i dont know why i didnt pick this one up earlier, as i love their other albums.

Skindred: Babylon, i picked this one up after playing NFSU2 a little too much.  It's listed as Raggae Punk Metal.  The single "Nobody" is a lot heavier than most of the album, but its still a good spin.

Aight, whatchall folks got?

Crap, that was so long ago -- I don't remember.

Wait, I purchased something for my mom for Christmas -- some guy was playing a hammer dulcimer when I went to Chimney Rock and I bought one of his CD's.  I also got a rainforest sounds CD at the dollar store.  I seriously can't remember the last thing I got for myself, though.  It might have been Newsboys - Take Me To Your Leader.

Actually, I got a couple cd's from a band that played at Clemson -- don't remember the name -- but I do remember that it doubled my CD collection. Wink

The last real CD I have purchased was 311's Greatest Hits back in June I believe. That last full album I've gotten (and I don't usually acquire full albums) was the Team America soundtrack, courtesy of John

Two albums I downloaded today...

Johnnyrook - It's Better This Way ... This is the one out of the two that I've given a full listen. It's kind of like acoustic rock. There's a full band but the guitars are acoustic. It's an interesting sound. Based on just one listen, this is an excellent find.

Future Leaders Of The World - LVL IV ... Only listened to a few songs here. It's a lot heavier than the Johnnyrook but it's not super heavy or anything. There seemed to be a few instances where the singer's voice reminded me a lot of Kurt Cobain. Some of the music did as well. The jury's still out on this one.

okay im plugging here...

EVERYBODY PICK UP A COPY OF clutch's "blast tyrant" NOW!!!! I have been listening to this nonstop for the last 3 weeks!  if you dont buy it, get it from Supermercado or me.

newest album bought though: 3 inches of blood "advance and vanquish".  just imagine if the darkness had chosen to use their unique brand of falsetto on speed metal instead.  hilarious songs about orcs, pirates and some weird robot called the wykydtron.

LostArt - it's nice to see someone else knows about Clutch. They were one of my favorite bands until they released the steaming pile of poo that was "Careful With That Mic" - that totally ruined them for me - but I still like "A Shogun Named Marcus." Great song.

Last two CD's...hmm.

UNKLE: "Psyence Fiction" - had to buy it to replace a copy of it that a friend of mine burned for me way back when.

Rammstein: "Herzeleid" - very, very sweet piece of work. Better than "Sehnsucht" but not as good as "Mutter" in my ever-so-unhumble opinion.

Yes, I'm a music geek. And yes, I'm new - disnut pointed me here. It shouldn't be long before I piss you all off, though.

Music geeks are welcome here. LostArt knows just as much about music as anyone I know. Iost knows a lot, too, but he doesn't post as frequently as Rolando does. As for me, I'm workin' on it. Rolando and I always seem to be "talking shop" when it comes to music. We'll have to try and get some more music-oriented discussion here at the forums now that we've got another big music fan on the board.

Yes, I'm a music geek.

if you're a music geek, you are definitely in the right place!  ok, you MUST get the new clutch album, get in touch with me or Super and we WILL somehow get it to you!  If you liked the Elephant Riders album, you'll love the newest one.  Its somehow the brilliance of old Clutch mixed with a somewhat simpler direction.

also, Herzeleid is a kickass album.  Best solos by far from them.  Mutter is probably the best album overall, but the newest one has some damn good songs on it too (Moscow, Mein Teil).  Sehnsucht was good, but the bonus track (Australian version had a cover of depeche modes "Stripped" that is just KILLER) just seals the deal for me.

as Super said, we know a bit bout music, and im definitely on the heavy end (i listen to everything, but the metal always draws me back).

Doubtful. Remember, we know disnut and she's not about to put up with someone that would piss us off that easy. We're all too mean to each other anyway and thrive off of it. It's a sickness.  Cool

Frances the MUTE: the mars volta
Angel of Retribution: judas priest

BOTH OF THESE ALBUMS KICK ASS!!

If you loved At the Drive In, Led Zeppelin, or old school Santana, pick up the new mars volta.  5 songs, over an hour altogether, good trip

JUDAS PRIEST, w/rob halford again! NEW ALBUM, first in over 10 years.  Amazing... its essentially their old sound for the most part, though the production is KILLER.  good guitar and vocal work.  If you loved the old priest, youll like the new stuff.

Ha.  I may be  poor but I had a Best Buy gift card lying around.

Just got the new Nine Inch Nails release "With Teeth".  It is friggin awesome.  lots of good beats, beeps, and whistles in it.  I like his use of synths and always have.  It's a decent mix between some earlier stuff in terms of there's good dance beats and stuff like "the Fragile" which had a lot of piano in it.  For someone like John, its old Nails meets The Killers "Hot Fuss"

Also picked up Limp Bizkits new one "The Unquestionable Truth (pt 1)".  It's their first album with Wes Borland (weird dude who wore costumes all the time) back on guitar since "Chocolate Starfish".  This is easily their best album since "three dollar billz y'all".  The rap element is still there, but its less pronounced, and there are virtually no samples on the album at all.  It's a fairly straightforward heavy rock album as far as Limp Bizkit goes.  I was really impressed with it and had to share the world.  I picked it up merely because i love Wes Borland both as the weirdo and as an awesome inventive guitar player (he used double-handed tapping to play some of his basic rhythm parts back in the day) and was mildly surprised with a decent though short album.

Seether "Karma and Effect":  Mkay, not as memorable as their first album in my opinion (Before they redid all the tracks and called it Disclaimer II haha, the first was better), but it does have solid songwriting.  It rocks more evenly than the last album did too.  It tends to use the mellow verse, heavy chorus method in just about every song.

Team Sleep: Chino of the Deftones side project has finally hit the shelves!  I REALLY dug this album; though its a HUGE departure from anything Deftones-ish.  Mostly piano, light guitar, and techno beats, this is Chinos moment of 80s pop glory.  Its really atmospheric, and mellow.  I bought it because i figured itd be worth a spin, and i am really happy with the money i spent.  THis was a treasure well worth it.  Don't be surprised if these guys never end up on the radio though, because its definitely an acquired taste.

ok, my list is rather long, i've recently come into a bunch of new music.

Dark New Day- 12 Year Silence
Supermercado, if you havent heard of this, get it!  It features members of SEVENDUST! (clint lowery), Stuck Mojo/Stereomud (Corey Lowery), Doubledrive, Virgos/Merlot, and Creed.  The best part of this supergroup? It doesnt suck!  it sounds a lot like a Sevendust or Stereomud album, though the vocals are really a unique experience.  Every member is credited with vocals on the sleeve.  Its just a good melodic rock album, though im still on the first listen right now.  I really love it so far though.

Avenged Sevenfold- City of Evil
If ever there was a new band of late to inherit the title of debauchery that Motley Crue and Guns n Roses held through the late 80s, early 90s, A7X are now it.  They were a hardcore punk act (leanin more towards the hardcore) who kicked out jams doublebass and screamin on the last couple albums.  Then their singer M. Shadows had vocal surgery and was told by doctors to stop screaming.  Thus a new direction.  There is virtually no screaming on the new album, guitar solos, harmonized guitars, soaring vocals.  Orchestras, a theme of sorts at times.  This album has really kicked these guys into the realm of rock i can like.  They live the Motley Crue life, and can now musically kick the crap out of the Crue any day of the week.  Damn good album, and an awesome creative extension.

Unearth- The Oncoming Storm
Damn good album from another Massachussets Metal band.  Good lord these guys are heavy, but in a good way.  Melody is constantly present in the guitar attack, though not as often in the vocals.  They have an awesome ear for solos and breakdowns, and how to just kick out a good riff and build the hell out of it.  They kick out the ol skool metal, the nu school metal, hardcore, all sortsa stuff.  At times they bust out really dissonant chords (think the first two Korn albums), and it really accentuates the heavy riffs that usually follow by taking the band from a chaos of noise to locking into a complete unit within seconds.  Produced by Adam D (guitarist and producer of Killswitch Engage), so its guaranteed to rock hard.

As I Lay Dying- Shadows are Security.
Another kickass heavy album along the lines of Unearth, though not as slickly produced and featuring more vocal melodies.  These guys supposedly are a Christian hardcore act, but you really can't tell from listening or the analyzing the vocals, though they are bit more upbeat lyrically than most metal acts.  Good stuff. I really dug em.

Static-X- Start a War
Finally!  Thats about all I can say to sum up this album.  I really havent enjoyed a Static X album since Wisconsin Deaith Trip, due to the absence of guitarist/keyboardist Koichi Fukuda who really gave them the "disco" aspect of the discometal moniker they originally earned.  Well on this album, he's back in the fold, and Wayne Static (the funky haired dude) is all the better for it.  This album incorporates the melodic singing Static finally learned to use well on the last album with the crazy pogo disco whatever metal of their past to make a cohesive experience i finally REALLY appreciate... for Static X anyways.
