Two men jailed over the gang rape of a teenage girl during a home invasion in Sydney have had their sentences reduced on appeal.

Dudley Mark Aslett and Steven James Aslett were among four men who broke into a unit in Newington, in Sydney's west, in July 2003.

They tied up the parents of a teenage girl before raping the 16-year-old at knifepoint.

In sentencing the men in 2004, Justice Michael Finnane said the victim had the worst injuries he had seen in his 35-year legal career - requiring surgery to her genitalia after the attack.

But the NSW Criminal Court of Appeal has cut the men's sentences.

Steven James Aslett, who was 18 at the time of the offence, was originally sentenced to 24 years with a non-parole period of 17 years after pleading guilty.

His sentence was reduced to 20 years with a non-parole period of 13 years.

Dudley Mark Aslett - Steven's uncle - was 32 at the time of the offence.

He was originally sentenced to 40 years with a non-parole period of 30 years following his trial.

This has been reduced to 30 years with a minimum period of 22 and a half years.

Dudley Aslett is already serving a life sentence for the murder of a Sydney chemist in 2003.

Two others - Christopher Bonham, who was 18 at the time of the offence, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, are serving up to 15 and five years respectively over the gang rape.
