Repeated head trauma can cause brain damage

:(
« on: Feb 28, 2006, 08:02 AM »

Some of you may know this already (I'm guessing just Chris and maybe Chandra), but my car is pretty well shot and has just degenerated from beater, hoopty, etc. to just plain doesn't quite work right anymore. In short, I think it's a blown header gasket and in that car, it's not worth the money to fix it, so I suppose I'm now in the market for a newer car.

As this was dawning on me yesterday - that it's not something that can be cheaply fixed - I kind of came to the realization that it makes me sad. I've been wanting a newer vehicle for a long time but now that the day is actually here, I'm going to be sad to see the old Cavalier go. It's served me pretty well for the most part over the years. I guess there's always a sense of loss when you get rid of your first car, though.

Man, you've had that car ever since you started driving. That's quite an amazing feat for a used car to last that long.

Heh, I never had a sense of loss when the Sable got towed away by the City of Bellevue Smiley I hated that thing. Now when my Civic finally goes kaput, then there will be mourning.

Mercado - when you do get to the finalization of everything (and yes, it it painful), think about donating the car to an organization.  You'll get a tax writeoff, the car will be happier, and you can make a difference to someone.  That's what we did with Christine.  The red Bonneville some of you knew and loved.  And yes, I do name my cars.

Don't know why elmono hated the Sable.  Seems like he gets just as many tickets in his Civic as he did in the other one.  *whistles*

Yeah, I probably will donate it. I don't think I'd be able to sell it. It's not worth much; worth more in pieces than it is together. It's got a nearly-new clutch that's worth at least $300 along with several other parts whose value has to be at least $750 or more. If I were to sell it at KBB value, I'd get like $400 or something. My dad said something about kidney cars, and they actually come and tow it and everything, so I might try to look into that. First, though, I have to find a new one, a search which has proved rather difficult so far.

I can sympathize. The car I have now is the second one I've had. I cried over losing my first and I even had mom take a pic of me and Marlie by it the day that I left it at the dealership. I never thought about donating it, but I actually did get something by doing the trade in deal so that worked out for me.

Hopefully you'll find a good car that will treat you well. Smiley

And the day has come. It will be used for a little while longer while Vengeance's car is being fixed but... the Civic that drove me out here is being retired and replaced by a 2003 Chevy Malibu

Yeah, it's hard to believe I've been rollin' in the Grand Prix for over a year now. It's cliche but it really does seem like yesterday that I got it.

Super, you might want to sit down for this but I've been told that if a good parking space is available with *GASP* cars on both sides, elmono is swinging that car in there.

Not a bad-looking ride. Looks good and clean.

As for the parking spot, that's just crazy talk. I went to Circuit City with my dad one day and I parked in the very last spot. The look on his face was priceless.

I'm going to have no problems parking at school tomorrow. Super would have gotten there two hours early to park in the boonies and walk to the building his class is in... which would probably be on the other side of campus

Super and parking spots?  I always remember him waiting for somebody in a close spot to leave, then he'd run out to his car, drive it over to the closer spot, and then never want to drive it again because he had such a good parking spot.

see, all i remember is the old car, which was falling apart even in high school, specifically going to see The Phantom Menace from the school parking lot right after the bell rang... and going to see a Bond movie with him, and the car slowly dying all the way back... all the lights were going dim....

That's all anyone here except Nathan remembers. He's the only that's seen the new one.

I think I remember that Bond trip. I guess that was probably Tomorrow Never Dies. I think that may have been one of the times that the alternator had to be replaced.

You know the term "neat freak"?.  Remember how Danny Tanner was in Full House, always cleaning?  Add those two together and multiply it by ten and you'd have Super.  He's one step below surgical sterliness.

Us, as elemo's parents, went to pick up Super from his college dorm room.  We entered the Twilight Zone.  No dust, no dirty dish in sight, no laundry on the floor.  And, as parents, we could tell this was not just a quick pick up deal.  We didn't even want to sit down lest we make a intentation in the couch.  Wicked scary.
