This really torques me.  And it will RichN too.  Atlanta gets turned down for the Super Bowl in 2009 because the NFL is afraid it's going to be too cold.  Yeah, we've got a Dome.  And we're in the South.  But the last time, there was a freak ice storm so none of the outdoor parties could be held.  So that's why you'll never see another Super Bowl in Atlanta, according to the NFL.

This year, they put it in Detroit.  Another dome but jeez, no outdoor parties.  Why is it in Detroit?  Because they have a new stadium and that was a bonus added to building that new stadium.  The Atlanta owner, Arthur Blank, was basically told that if he gets Atlanta to build a new stadium, his chances of getting a Super Bowl here will put him on the top of the list.  The Georgia Dome is perfectly fine and suitable for the Falcons.  Why build something that doesn't need to be built.  Mr. Blank, to his credit, said "screw you".  Now he's probably going to buy the Braves too.

NFL stands for National Financial League.  Hypocrisy at the highest level.

I've been to the Georgia Dome and I thought it was just fine. It handled an enormous crowd just fine. The logic behind playing the Super Bowl in Detroit over Atlanta is pretty mind-boggling if the reason is the tailgating. Pretty sure that most of the time, it's going to be warmer in Atlanta in late January/early February than it is in Detroit. Barring a freak ice storm, anyway.

I had to turn off the heat this morning.  It's colder than normal but not that bad.  The reason for the turndown of Atlanta was for the beautiful people's stuff on Saturday night.  The limos couldn't make it down the streets to deliver the rich home before the game.  I guess Detroit is equiped to handle the cold so snowplows are a vehicle of choice.

Atlanta, with it's MARTA subway and the parking lots all around the Georgia Dome, can easily handle a crowd.  In fact, we've stayed in the heart of the convention hotels and had an easy walk over to the Dome.  The subway here is so simple to use.  But people like Whitney Houston don't want to do it.  They want the glitz and the glamour and if you don't have that, you don't have anything.

I'm watching the preshow and I'm tired of hearing how great the field looks "for being five years old".  Are stadiums supposed to be built to be disposable?

Professional sports leagues like showing off the new stadiums which is why the MLB All-Star games have been in the new stadiums lately. Although it is a pretty flimsy excuse about the cold, considering that as I look outside here in Toledo, only an hour away from Detroit, and I see snow on the ground.

Ahem, I think the NFL has a reason to be wary of the Super Bowl in Atlanta after seeing this freaky snow happening there right now... yes... your state made the Toledo news. Congrats!

That freaky snow was nothing.  It was white rain.  In fact, the Monday morning commute was one of the easiest anyone has ever encountered.  I was in to work in 45 minutes.  I think that was a record.  Hell, I didn't even take a coat to work.  Temps are in the 40s.
