Seriously, this is stupid. Lots of people can't really watch the games if they go to 1am on the East Coast. I didn't even see to halftime of the West Virginia-Georgia game the other day and last night's Florida State-Penn State game went to triple overtime and ended past 1am, as well. Tonight's title game could do the same. If they don't start these games until after 8pm on the East Coast, it's just too late for a lot of people. Ridiculous.

Some football fans get up in the morning to go to work but still want to watch the games without getting 5 hours of sleep...

Just do what we did when Daytona in July went long because of rain. We stayed up WHILE AT DISNEY WORLD until 2:00 AM to see the end. You'll survive without the sleep. What did you used to do in college with all nighters? Jeez - it IS football!!!

Yeah, I know. I didn't stay up late to watch the other games cuz they weren't the national championship. If this game is close when it comes time to go to bed, I'll probably stay up until it ends or is no longer close. As for all-nighters, I only ever did one or two and they weren't any fun either time.

Personally, I was tired of all the USC hype. Threepeat this, Bush that, Leinart..whatever. Glad to see Texas win.

I was getting a bit sick of the USC hype, as well. Sure, they're a great team, and probably one of the best ever, but it was starting to get tiresome. I was glad to see Texas take it, too.

That's why I don't really like Nebraska because of all that hype stuff and living in the state to boot during their godly times.

I have to admit, Super, you're absolutely right. I don't see why most sporting events can't be done earlier in the day. If there's a scheduling problem then they're going to have to compromise or something.
But I get upset with the late showings, too. Don't they know that some of their viewers have a life and have a desire to be responsible adults AND watch sports. I'm not willing to walk around like a zombie the next day just to watch a sports event and it's not fair that the sporting events seem to want us to do just that.

I was conflicted with the FSU and Miami losses. I hate Florida State and certainly have no real like for Miami, either, but they're both ACC teams and I want the ACC to do well in bowl games. Even with their failures, I think we still might have won it. Well, we were tied with the Big XII and I guess both conferences have claims to a tiebreaker. We won the one (I think) game between the two conferences with Clemson's win over Colorado but they won the national championship. That's a toss-up, I think.
But yeah, back to the original topic.... I know I'm right, hehe. It really is quite ridiculous to have major sporting events like the BCS bowls and the Super Bowl and the World Series that a lot of people watch go so late into the night. If it was on a Friday or Saturday or a holiday or something, then I totally understand and have no problems. But like you said, there's a lot of people, myself included, that want to watch the games but have a job to be at at 8 or 9 the next day. I didn't stay up to watch either the Sugar or Orange bowls but I stayed up to watch the Rose the other day. National championship, gotta do it. But there needs to be some way to get those games at a time where people on the east coast don't have to stay up several hours past when they normally go bed to watch.

It's called prime time ratings. They don't start until 8:00 PM and until 9:00 PM, it's considered "family time" so they put the "non-family" stuff on after 9:00 PM. Ever wonder why Monday Night Football always starts at 9:00 PM? That's why. The networks are afraid a player will do something on the field that will be captured live and scare the little kids on a school night.
It was a huge debate about a decade and a half ago. 5:00-9:00 was designated Family Viewing Time. So the local stations put on the lame reruns and the real news. I challenge a family to get through the news without explaining more stuff to their kids than watching a football game.
Ever read "The Running Man" by Stephen King? All about the TV controlling your life.

Super, they don't care about you, or me, or the millions of other people who like to watch the games. Everything was moved to nighttime for the almighty dollar. Plus, too many women complain when sporting events take off their soap operas. I remember when, I think, Reagan was shot and they pre-empted the soaps for news on the shooting. Man, you should have heard the uproar.

Yeah, I know. It's all about the benjamins at the end of the day. And it really sucks. I don't watch MNF but I've always thought it was stupid that it started at 9. That's seriously too late for a game to be starting. People can watch the first half and have to check ESPN in the morning to see who won. I understand why, but I still think it's a giant load of crap.

It was the Reagan shooting. He was shot earlier in the day, was undergoing surgery, people didn't know who the hell was in charge of the country, no one knew if Reagan would live or die, Brady was hit and ultimately paralyzed. And I sat in the empty TV room in the dorm fending off all those idiots who were bitching that they couldn't find out what was going on with Luke and Laura. Back to the original subject. Why does today's first football playoff game start at 4:00 and the second at 8:30 but tomorrow's is the normal 1:00 and 4:00?

I'd say just because it's Saturday. But I can't think of any good reason to play them later on a Saturday than on a Sunday unless they're being courteous to those of us that work Monday morning, which we've already established is definitely not the case.

You should try ATTENDING a Monday night game and see what that does to you. I think 2 or 3 AM was the norm for finally putting head to pillow.
