http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ap-classic-cubadenied&prov=ap&type=lgnsI think this is a load of BS. It's like not allowing Cuba to be in any Olympics taking place in the United States. Plus the Cold War is over and Cuba has not done a single thing to threaten the United States recently to even warrant the embargo anymore (except for all those danged refugees).

I'd say it's because they're Communist, but that doesn't make sense, either, because we've allowed Chinese athletes into the US for the Olympics and we'll be going to Beijing in 2008. Must just be bad blood.

I think Castro has mellowed out since the end of the Cold War, especially since he wouldn't want to piss off the US considering Russia isn't around to back him up anymore.

That would suck if we got the shaft on Olympic bids because of this.

Sends the idiotic Bush administration a message. I love the part where they say unlike the Clinton administration, they follow the law and policy. Um... which administration was it that claimed there were WMDs in Iraq despite all the evidence?
I love the article citing numerous examples of Cuba playing sporting events in the United States, including the one where they played soccer here just last year.

Comments from the boat weary. The treasury dept is just doing their job, because the law says Cuba can't be paid for being there, which I'm guessing every team is getting money, but Cuba is on the "list". It's not up to me to make those types of decisions, but I just think this embargo is silly. That being said, I also think the IOC is being a bunch of idiots by blackmailing the US with the threat of withholding host bids from the US. Bunch of shit, in my opinion.

Then why did the US allow Cuba in the '96 Olympics, the '99 game with the Orioles, and that soccer tournament last year?
