Just wanted to let you kids know about a new email virus that has been spreading like wildfire today. If you get an email from either the FBI or the CIA (it's telling you that you've visited a bunch of illegal sites or something), don't open it. There's an executable that's attached to the email that turns your computer into a spam relay. Badness.
My understanding is that Symantec released new virus definitions today that block this virus from working, so make sure that your virus definitions are current. I don't know what McAfee has done to combat the virus, but it's probably best to update your defs, anyway.
This thing spreads fast; 3 of our clients were infected today, so watch out.

Wonder if it's the sober worm. I just started getting bombarded with it recently. I don't recall any titles about FBI or CIA, though. It's probably something different. Seems I'm the only one lucky enough to get thousands of copies of some obscure worm every day...

It's either sober or a variant of it. All the emails from Earthlink that I get that say it's been removed have Sober in the title.
I haven't been getting thousands, but I do get a couple or so every day, I think.

And it only stops at ~1300 each day because there's limited space in the bulk mail folder (100 megs, I think).

... and it stopped. I opened yahoo mail today expecting the usual 1300+ messages in the bulk folder, and there was only 1.

Still a small handful trickling in. I got about 10 today, all of which claimed to be from the FBI/CIA. "You visit illegal websites", "Your IP was logged", etc. Before I had all kinds of stuff (and lots more of it). I think it's timed. It spreads itself like mad, then stops, then deploys a payload. Last time it was some crap about how foreigners were taking over jobs in Germany. The ones still trickling in are probably from people who have the wrong time on their computer clock.
