Inspired by John's main page, what songs have you been listening to a lot lately?

Papa Roach - Getting Away With Murder
Vangelis - Titans (Alexander soundtrack)
Charlie Clouser - Hello Zepp (Saw soundtrack)

I know I'll be listening to 311 soon once I get around to making my 311's Greatest Hits CD... since I finally found all my CDs

Repeated head trauma can cause brain damage

Let's see, see this was inspired by my main page, I suppose I should at least try and come up with some stuff.

The most recent things I've downloaded are an Apartment 26 album and a ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead album. Both are good from the parts I've listened to so far.

And what have I burned to listen to in the car lately... I burned Depswa, 30 Seconds To Mars, and the new Exies album, which is pretty good. Also been listening to Flaw (thanks for hooking that up, Ro, that's a great CD).

My list needs to be updated, as well. I've been listening to a lot of stuff lately. Mostly albums, though. I guess I can list a few tracks on each album that are my favorites.

- The Killers - Hot Fuss. Everything on this album is awesome. It's hard to pick any one track on this CD since it's all so good, but I really like "Andy, You're A Star," "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine," and "Smile Like You Mean It."

- Bloc Party - Silent Alarm. Another good album. I'm not familiar with it yet to pick out specific tracks but it's good stuff throughout.

- Johnnyrook - It's Better This Way. Solid acoustic rock. Very good.

I think I got out of music back when Napster began to get popular...

That's when I really got into music. I remember the "good old days" freshman year when Napster was really in its prime and Clemson had to block access to it between 7am and 6pm or whatever it was. It would have been fun to see the router lights flash to life at 6pm when Napster was available and everyone on campus started downloading again. Unfortunately, the internet slowed to a crawl until like 10pm with everyone downloading. That part... not so fun.

Were you with GE yet when we had to play that clan match with 4 of us on campus and we all had like 300 ping, Jason? Cal was the only one to have a decent ping. And we still beat those kids. That was a strangely large amount of fun, that match.

lol, I don't remember... I know one match I had like, a 550 ping or something and was still killing kids though.

I love Clemson's logic, btw... Ok, here's Napster and here's normal traffic.  Let's block all Napster traffic during the day (instead of throttling it... I mean, cmon, do you need 80 Mbps for frigging webpages?).  So instead, when you get home from class, the net is functionally useless.  That pissed me off so bad.  I couldn't use it during the day cuz I wasn't home and I couldn't use it at night because of 10 Mbps switches on the floors and asshats w/wide open pipes blowing all over the connection.

not something new, but i came across it again when i was lookin for music to talk about with my american history classes.  I'm tryin to be the cool teacher who brings in lots of newer, neat things kids might relate to.

the ghost of tom joad: springsteen and rage against the machine, both versions kick ass.

anything by the nightwatchman.  The nightwatchman is tom morello, the guitarist from rage against the machine.  we know him for all those wacky, weird dj noises and effects he uses when he plays.  well this is his other side.  its all just him and an acoustic guitar.  all he does is play oldstyle union songs and ballads.  he has a real deep baritone voice, and it just cuts so deeply, just as powerful as rage without the screaming.  i love both.

You're going to have to hook me up with that Morello stuff. It sounds sweet.

Tons of Celldweller (particularly "Stay With Me (Unlikely)") and Godhead.

Supermercado - Apartment 26 is awesome...I'm guessing that the CD you downloaded is probably "Music for the Massive" ("Kick to the Head", "Heaven", "Book (Be My Friend)") - if you like their harder techno-ish stuff, look for their "Hallucinating" CD. Fan-friggin-tastic, and better than their more recent CD overall.

ha, i would agree with you whole-heartedly, though i think Super is more of a "Massive" fan... he ain't down with the heavy stuff, and the first album is definitely more heavy. kick ass stuff, better overall album as you said.  the songs i really like off "massive" like kick to the head remind me more of the last album which was more technoish (industrial) and less jazzy.

kidneythieves album zerospace is amazing.  I got it for free waaaaay back in the days when i worked at Homer's records here in Lincoln.  It's like a cross between Nine Inch Nails and Tori Amos.  Its got the quiet female vocals goin with industrial music.  It's not all that heavy, but the combination is striking.  The album is prior to the whole Evanescence/Lacuna Coil popularity of late, but its better in some ways...
also been cranking the 2003 album revelation day by a band called Evergrey.  They could be called a cross between a hardcore metal band (think Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall or ol skool Metallica) mixed with the vocals and keyboards of Bon Jovi, but in a unique refreshing heavy combo.  i was impressed.

Edit: Fixed the italics, Ro Smiley
