If they think they can screw around with the franchise like that, forget it. They're getting rid of Q and the gadgets and making Bond age 28? Oh hell no. Bond is not Bond without Q and gadgets. One way we can get this message across is by not seeing the movie. This is ridiculous. Sony (which bought MGM, which owns the Bond license) is totally screwing over the franchise. I'm going to see about finding EON Productions' e-mail address and posting it here so we can all complain.

Man, as someone who's first R rated movie was "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (yes, the scene where the guy gets chopped in the snow blower got it an R rating), I can't believe a movie where Bond gets younger, and the gadgets go.  What's next, the cutsey names for the women?  No more Pussy Galore or Holly Goodnight?

Restarting the franchise worked with Batman because Joel Schumacher totally destroyed the franchise. Restarting the franchise with Bond? No, there's nothing wrong with it. Maybe just get away from non-stop action set pieces and go back to the storylines of the Connery days but that's it. They can still make Bond with the things we're all familiar with.

Possible good news: Apparently Sony is pressuring EON Productions to get Brosnan back as Bond, which will hopefuly put this prequel nonsense to rest. Plus, Daniel Craig cannot pull of Bond. He doesn't even look the part.

This is good news. It's not time for Brosnan to get out of the Bond role yet.

According to that article, Daniel Craig very much looks the part. Anyway, I loved him in Tomb Raider.

Yet in other pictures of him, he looks nothing like the part. I don't think he looks... suave enough

He looks too craggy for Bond.  Hell, Ben Affleck would be a better Bond.

The guy that I would love to see in the role can't be. I think he was in a Bond movie already as a bad guy. Maybe that was Mission:Impossible. I don't know. Anyway, I'm hooked on Dougray Scott.

I thought he was in Bond, too, but according to IMDb, you were right. Looks like he was in M:I-2.

YOU'RE KIDDING ME!!! Moneypenny and Q will not be appearing in Casino Royale just because they don't appear in the book. Since when have they followed the Bond books exactly?! This movie is getting worse and worse...

Oh, yeah, and they changed the card game in the movie from baccarat (a James Bond staple) to no limit Texas Hold 'Em.....................

That, and I'm not even a Bond fan, is just freaking WRONG!  What's next?  Bond is going to be drinking Coors Light instead of martinis?  To quote John Grisham "stupid, stupid, stupid".

What's wrong with you people? Nothing wrong with it? Have you seen the movies? They're HORRIBLE. Now Pierce Brosnan is an awesome James Bond, but he's in horrible James Bond movies. Goldeneye was pretty cool, but it's been downhill since. They're just mindless stunt movies. The difference between 007 and xXx is a British accent and horrible puns, so that actually puts xXx in the lead. Bond movies have been trying to compete with stupid over the top summer action flicks for too long, they need to get back to the darker tone of the books. These days we've got the Bourne movies to show us how cool James Bond could be, and just what a cartoon he's become instead. Either Bourne movie's car chases are better than any three action sequences in any of the recent Bond movies combined, and he doesn't need retarded gadgets or even a fast BMW to pull it off. It's just great movie making.

Now I honestly doubt that they're going to really make the changes they need to in order to make Bond a worthwhile franchise again, but I'm glad to see they at least realize it's time for a change.

There is simply no way that I could have said that better, Schmidt. Very well said and I totally agree (except maybe regarding xXx being better, because Bond is still Bond, even if they have been sucking).

They don't have to restart the franchise to bring Bond back to the likes of the Connery days. They just need better script writers. And as long as they don't release the Bond movies in the summer (like the Dalton ones, although The Living Daylights is one of my favorite Bond movies) then they don't need to make them mindless action movies. Of course, the last time they stuck pretty much exactly to the book was On Her Majesty's Secret Service which is my favorite Bond movie.

You decided to select one part of my post that you disagreed with and ignored the rest of it in which I said they do need to get away with the non-stop action set pieces. You even said they're mindless stunt movies. I had already said they needed to get away from the non-stop action set pieces. I also said they need to get back to the way the Connery days were, which were darker and more story-orientated. Die Another Day started off wonderfully for the first half. It felt like one of the older Bond movies. Then, once they got to Iceland, it fell apart. And you can't blame the producers of Bond for making these movies brainless. You need to fault the audience. They don't like to think. Fortunately, the trend this year is action movies have been doing poorly (The Island, Stealth, The Cave, etc) and people seem to be drifting towards more smartly written movies. The Bond movies have always followed the trends. Star Wars came out so the next Bond movie was Moonraker, for example. Then we have Licence to Kill, which could have been a regular movie without Bond. If you remember the late 80s, that was nothing but stupid action movies. It fit the trends at the time.

I think Bond shouldn't fit any damn trends. Bond should be the trend. Cuz really, what other series of movies has been around and had so many sequels as Bond? None that I'm aware of. I do still agree with pretty much all that was said above, though.

Unfortunately, Bond follows trends. It has to survive somehow.

I'd almost rather see it do poorly (but only poorly enough so that it's still profitable to make them) at the box office and go back to its roots.

I was telling Vengeance I hope it makes $10,000 or something so they learn their lesson. I wouldn't be surprised if EON Productions is getting swamped with hate e-mail and snail mail

Here's a publicity photo of Craig in the tuxedo holding a silenced Walther:

So thankfully the media calling him the first blonde Bond is just because he's naturally blonde and will dye his hair for the movie.
