Seriously speaking, how many people will really give up their games for a recall? Very few I'm assuming since I bet most of the owners of that game are teenagers and people in their twenties. Like they care about the "Hot Coffee" crap. From what I've heard, it's poorly rendered nudity and the main character is fully clothed...

It's not even a part of the game. Some guys created a patch that allows you to see what happens when you have "hot coffee" with your girlfriends. So it's pretty much for PC only and you pretty much have to put the patch in, which wasn't even created by Rockstar.

Oh, hot coffee is something not made by Rockstar? I didn't know that.

They're complaining because Rockstar left that stuff in the game to be hacked. I'm pretty sure Rockstar had no idea it was still in the game. Every game released has stuff left behind from development they never take out. This makes me wonder why these idiots never went after Eidos after the nude Lara Croft patch, which wasn't created by Eidos. Or why they never went after EA for the patches that get rid of the blurry spots on the Sims when they get naked, which also was not created by EA. It's pretty easy for hackers to make any game Adult Only if they look hard enough. Unfortunately, Rockstar left nude models in the game from development. Maybe I should get that Hot Coffee patch and report to you guys what the big deal is.

There were sex scenes in the game that were "cut" from the final version. Until now, removing the code to activate them would've been considered sufficient, but now the ESRB has basically said Rockstar is liable for the art assets left in the game even though they require user modification (which probably actually breaks the EULA) to activate. It sets a pretty nasty precident. One of the same lawyer guys making all the noise about this is actually going after the Sims as well since there's a code to remove the blurs (though no actual nudity on the characters, just Barbie and Ken dolls under the blur).

Where Rockstar is catching a lot of flack, and rightly so, is the way their PR initially outright denied that the content was in the game at all and then had to eat their words. They should've just said "Yup, we left that in there but with no intention of the user playing it, that's why it was inaccessible through any means we provided," and left it at that.

Right now, the result has been ESRB re-rating the game as AO (Adults Only). Rockstar of course ceased production of the game and will be providing a patch for existing PC versions that removes the content entirely as well as releasing an updated version for the consoles which will be resubmitted to the ESRB sans-Coffe, presumably returning it to an M (Mature) rating.

As far as I've heard, there's no actual recall taking place. Many retailers have pulled the game from their shelves though until the new M rated version is released, as most of them have company policies against AO games.

Again, how many people really will get that patch to get rid of it? Kind of stupid if you ask me. You need a patch to get the Hot Coffee to work. What's the point of getting a patch to get rid of it? The simple patch is... don't install the Hot Coffee patch.

And I think everybody who would want this game would have it by now so it's pretty much all a waste.

Agreed. If it's a patch, anyway, then it's retarded to unpatch it.

what i don't get is the one year difference between M and AO rated games... are we supposed to believe that people mature enough between 17 and 18 that all of a sudden they can have AO games anyways?  The move by the courts on this is almost assinine.  You cant really patch a console game anyways can you? So most of the copies sold no one has to worry about.  Those that own the game on PC are most likely over the 17-18 age anyways.  And you can guarantee that even if they do bump up the rating kids will still get their hands on it because parents are dumb enough to continue buying stuff for their kids.  I think that out of the huge number of people who own this game, very few are in that one year bubble between 17 and 18.  All the parents crying "Wolf" are the ones who bought the game for their 12 year olds even though it already had an "M" rating.  yeesh.

Yeah, these moron parents need to realize the ratings are there for a reason, just like movie ratings are there. I think the ESRB does a fair job of rating games. They even straight out tell you why they rated a game a certain way right on the friggin box! I'm all for stores enforcing the ESRB ratings but there will still be parents who will buy those M rated games and hand them off to their punk kids. Then those parents who knew the game was M rated (for the simple fact they had to buy the game and not the kids) raise a stink about the content. IT SAYS IT ON THE BOX! RATED M FOR MATURE!!! It even gives a friggin age range for crying out loud! How hard can that be?! Man, I really hate society right now. I really do.

BTW, Demon Child, thankfully, is not one of those dumb kids. She watches CSI, plays Resident Evil, watches horror movies, and still knows it's not real. When it all comes down to it, parents need to realize THEY need to watch what their kids do and THEY need to regulate what their kids can play and watch, not everybody else. They're your kids people! Deal with them! Unfortunately, society is too dumb and too lazy to do anything to that degree. I'm glad I was raised properly and didn't turn out to be one of these moron parents.

This isn't really about fixing the copies already in circulation, and nobody has any illusions about kids going home and responsibly patching away the objectionable content. It's just a PR move to show outraged parents and politicians and sensationalist news outlets that "Hey, we're doing the right thing!"

*boggle*

Going with the GTA... mood, I guess... the hot coffee mod should have been part of the game to begin with, I think. And if it's gotta be AO and sold only at game stores where every person that buys it is carded, so be it. If anyone's stupid enough to buy a game for their kid or grandkid and get carded buying it and still gets upset over the content, they deserve to be dragged out into the street and beaten for their stupidity.

Oh and BTW, I'm completely okay with beating the hell out of these parents and grandparents that are bitching about anything with this game. It's like the third one or something like that. There's a lot of violence and they're acting surprised about the sex.

I'll just give Demon Child a gun and tell her that it's okay to blow someone's head off for shits and giggles, but if she ever tries to do anything sexual with anyone I'll beat her ass. Yeah, this whole thing is seriously fucked up. Parents need to get their priorities straight.

I was telling Super earlier that when I was playing the game today, I was running over people with a tank, blowing up cars with said tank, I shot a guy standing at a slot machine because I wanted to play on it, I was gambling, I picked up a prostitute, I got a lap dance at a strip joint, and I drove around Las Venturas with a guy strapped to the hood of my car scaring the crap out of him. So all of that is okay in an M rated game (which, may I remind you, it pretty much the same thing as an R rating on a movie. Both say 17 and older. R rated movies have nudity and sex) but a bit of nudity that isn't even a part of the game unless it's patched with a hacked file (which is technically a violation of the EULA) immediately raises flags? I fear for my children.

Very good points about the R-rated movies being the same, essentially, as M-rated games. I don't know that I ever looked at it that way, but I wonder what these douchebag parents would say if the question was posed to them that way. You'll let your kids watch R-rated movies with profanity, violence, and nudity? But heaven forbid they put those things in a videogame (and the nudity isn't even technically there, and is a violation of the EULA, as elmono pointed out - why aren't these parents getting mad with their pervert little preciouses for downloading the hot coffee mod to begin with, hmmm?)... Do that and all hell breaks loose.

Man. I love this country most of the time and I'm glad I don't live anywhere else, but it's shit like this that really makes me hate it sometimes.
