I wonder how hard ESPN tried to fight that. I find it hard to believe that ESPN would just sit by and let EA Sports reclaim the market like that. The NFL market is the one market ESPN really needs to get a foothold in if they want to really compete in the sports videogame market. There's just not enough interest in the other sports as far as videogames go.

Maybe this means that ESPN will make a college football game next fall.

Agreed, but at least the EA series is damn good.  I can understand the choice of EA for both product base and year-to-year growth.  They always try and outsell themself.  And good luck to ESPN on college football... the NCAA is more idiotic than any other governing body in sports

Agreed. At least it's not like EA Sports does a half-assed job with the Madden series. They must have felt really threatened with the ESPN game this year and decided to do something about it. Kudos to them, at least, for that business practice.

Isn't forcing people to choose from only one thing against everything the United States stands for? Sure, there may be unlicensed football games but who will want to play those?

Technically, yeah, it's headed towards a monopoly. But really, until no other company will make an NFL game because they know EA is going to dominate, it's not a monopoly yet. And another thing the US stands for is perfectly represented in EA's business: capitalism. Yay, capitalism!

Now just wait until the government comes in and goes AT&T on EA and splits them up into a bunch of little companies, one for each area... They always seem to screw up good things.  Not all monopolies are bad, it's just when the power of such a situation is abused that it becomes a problem.  I think EA can manage this well and make good on their powerful position.

Right. EA has demonstrated time and time again that they make the best sports games. I say let 'em keep on doing it well.

I agree with the fact that EA makes the best sports games, but EA is a powerful company and can easily bully or even buy out smaller companies to get their way.

The question isn't what "can" they do, but what "will" they do... Time will tell
