I know this varies by geography, so what's the biggest thing in your area? Back in NJ, it was pro football (Eagles) with maybe a hint of college basketball (Temple, St. Joe's, etc). Anything else was basically just frills and extras to complement these.

Well, yes, Mr. Nebraska and SC... and as an aside, let's have people throw in where they're from, too, just for a little more info ;)

Here in the Atlanta area, would you freaking believe that college football rules? Between Georgia Tech and Georgia, there's no room for anything else. Forget that the Falcons just won the NFC South. When you talk football around here, people are shocked you are going to a game on Sunday and not Saturday. When we moved down here, I thought it was strange that there were so many Green Bay Packer fans. Then I realized the "G" was for Georgia.
The Hawks stink and the Thrashers, if they ever play again, also stink. I don't like the Braves at all (we could do a whole "I hate the Braves" thing with me). So it's the Falcons for me.

Here in Ohio? Ohio State/Michigan rivalry. Another big event would be the NASCAR races up at Michigan International Speedway.

In NW Ohio it's all about hockey. Detroit Red Wings to be specific. More recently the Pistons have been a focus, but that will fade. Red Wings fans are in abundance year round up here.

I forgot about the Red Wings because, well, the NHL is in a lockout so it's not apparent here right now

im also a Mr. Nebraksa, so inevitably, its college football. That may wane soon what with the recent decline of the Cornhusker Dynasty. As i have been goin to school in Lincoln, I have caught on to a trend that is not present in the Omaha area. They are huge on the NFL. All of my friends are huge Green Bay fans because Ahman Green was a fine graduate of the Geography program at UNL (he finished school after a couple seasons in the NFL). Other than that, the western half of the state are diehard Broncos fans, and the eastern half (excluding omaha) are diehard Chiefs fans. I throw myself in the Packers category. Only Geography major in history cooler than Green is Michael Jordan (i think?). NU volleyball has a tendency to take it to the top as well. Hockey is also big here, though not at a spectator level. Even I have started playing hockey and broomball, and i cant rollerskate! Somehow ice skating worked out easier.

Boy did I despise the Cornhuskers when I lived in Nebraska. That was during the days of Tom Osborne and, man, those Cornhusker fans certainly were annoying then... and I'm so happy to hear how miserable the Cornhuskers are now

werd. Big JOhn can attest to the hatred ive been slingin towards them Huskers for years now. I went to school there because my ex-girlfriend was goin there (its always a girl), and the scholarship was nice, too. If i had been unattached, you can be sure i would have ended up elsewhere, most likely, UT-Austin.
