So IGN posted their reader's top 99 games based on all the votes accumulated over however many years and released the list recently, I guess.
http://microsites.ign.com/kfc/top99games/What a load of crap. There are so many things wrong with this list. I can only name a few; otherwise, we'd be here all day.
First of all, the original Legend of Zelda is only #80? Come on now. StarCraft at #74? k, I'll admit, I've never really played the game but even I know it's the best RTS game ever made. I think that's deserving of at
least top 20. Doom 3 at #58? Not in my book. One of the biggest travesties of all: Super Mario World at #53?! UT2004 is on the list at #42, but what about any of the Quake games? GTA:VC beats out GTA3 but GTA:SA is like top 15 or something. No way. Super Mario 64 at #31? Right... Final Fantasy VII at #29? That's barely top 30. FFVII is like top 10 material and I never really even played it. One thing not wrong with the list: Perfect Dark made it at #24. Glad to see it got some recognition. Halo and Halo 2 are
not the 18th and 19th best games ever, I'm sorry. For all the fanboys out there, Halo is nothing more than an overrated piece of crap. It'd be a mediocre game at best on the PC. God of War as the #6 best game of all time? That came out like last week, for crying out loud! It may be a good game but let's let it stand the test of time and see if anyone's still playing it this time next year before we give it #6 best game of all time. Half-Life 2 at #5, but where the
fuck is Half-Life? Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, same as God of War. It's been out for like 3 months. It's not the #3 best game ever yet. I'm not a Resident Evil fan in the least but I think there's probably a more deserving #1 best game than RE4. Like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, there at #2. Or better yet, Chrono Trigger at #4.
k, I guess I got a little carried away with blasting this worthless piece of shit list. Of course, when a reader list is compiled from a site like IGN, what else can you expect? Most of their audience isn't even able to drive a car legally, I'm sure. Total disregard for any of the early games. Pac-Man? Tetris? Hello... The list proves one thing, that's for sure: graphics matter to kiddies. Forget about the fact that Tetris was so simple in its design and so addicting (I still play it almost every day). No, you can't rip someone's heart out or cut off their head or anything, but how many games will you find that people still play almost 20 years after first being released?
And I'm still being carried away. So I'm ending here. Anyone else have any thoughts on this almost-total piece of shit list?
