The jury has decided to recommend death by lethal injection over life in prison without parole. I'm kind of on the fence as far as the death penalty goes, but I don't like the idea of all the people outside the courthouse, that have no personal investment in this case, holding up signs calling for a man's death. It's as if they're condoning on their part what they're condemning him for.
Granted, like I said, I'm not saying whether I'm for or against it because I'm not really sure, but it's odd for strangers to cheer for an announcement of a man's impending death.

Still not sure why this case of all the murder cases in the country captivated the entire nation. Why was Laci Peterson so important?
That being said, I don't agree with the protestors and all that either. Lived in Nebraska for a long, long time and the sight of the two sides whenever there was an execution was just puzzling. Can some group change the outcome?
I have to admit that there were some convicted criminals that I felt needed to die. Walking Willie Otey was the worst. Raped and killed for absolutely no reason and then stretched the death sentence out for, what, something like 24 years?
The big question is - will Peterson actually be put to death? This isn't over with my a long shot. He's not going to do a Gilmore and ask for the firing squad. Appeal, appeal, appeal. We'll all be grandparents by that time.

Heck, Nebraska still uses Ole Sparky. No lethal injections there.

Yeah, we had to monitor our electricity when the switch was thrown. Evil, I know.

I know that I was okay with Timothy McVeigh getting the death penalty. I actually watched the coverage and cried. Knowing that I wasn't sharing the planet with him made me feel okay. That was the ONLY execution that didn't have me crying for the loss of life(in any form it is sad). Oh...that and when Dahmer was killed in prison. I just thought that was poetic justice.

It's kinda funny the way inmates behave and the standards they have... from what I hear, they don't take kindly to those that do nasty things to little children. Lots of people in there still have some decency to them; kinda interesting how they show it.

The one thing I remember about when they announced Dahmer's death was that they pulled in all the friends and family members of his victims and urged them not to talk to the media and not to condone the actions of the inmate that killed him.
So they're all leaving this meeting and one of the media people asked this woman whose son was killed by Dahmer what she thought about Dahmer's killer. She lit up with a big smile and said something like 'He's getting a Christmas card from me this year.'
LOL. You go, girl....

This guy at school had a pretty good plan on how to deal with inmates that are on death row. Actually, the radical in me says to go for it. Here's the setup.
You get all the people on death row. Make two groups(one for men and one for women). Give them all about six months to do whatever they want to prepare for the big event. That's right...the big event...
Gladiator competitions! Pay per view and ticket sales will all go to keeping our prison systems up to date enough that we don't have to let people walk because there's no room to put them.
The winner of each match goes on another day. That's right...to the death matches. If there's a point where there is a winner and no more death row inmates? Easy. THAT person gets life in prison. Or maybe we could make seasons out of it. You know...take fifty inmates for one season and out of those one gets life instead of death at the end.
Other ways to stop overpopulation of the penal system? Legalize marijuana and (my fave idea) legalize prostitution. But that's just my two pennies.

Hrm... you know all those lanes that are peskily closed on interstates in order to do roadwork? Why not put those inmates to use fixing potholes or repainting lines without closing lanes :) Yeah, it might do some damage to your vehicle, but at least you'll get there quicker. Besides, whoever survives three shifts doing that sort of work can go work in a body-shop on the prison grounds where, hey, you can take you car to have it fixed free of charge. Population control AND public service. That's what I'm talking about!

But I still haven't stopped laughing yet and besides that... you can't tell me 75/85 wouldn't flow better if that's the only way they ever did roadwork...

Maybe just lay all the convicts down in a row... sure it would be bumpy at first, but it'd smooth out eventually. I'm a bad person.
