EA has just gained exclusive rights to NCAA football for 6 years to go along with their exclusive rights to the NFL. With Take 2 having exclusive rights to MLB, this is getting way out of hand. This is something the government should step into as it creates a monopoly on licensed sports titles. Consumers want to be able to choose which licensed sports title they want, not forced to play an inferior product just because that's the only one out there. And Take 2 allowing Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to develop MLB titles on their own console just doesn't cut it. 989 Studios sucks at making games, Microsoft doesn't make MLB games, and there's not enough user base for Nintendo for their baseball game coming out in June. This is ridiculous.

It is ridiculous. Monopolies aren't legal and fair competition is required by law, yes? The way these companies are running their businesses is against both of those things. They've got a monopoly on the market and it makes it so other companies can't compete in a fair environment.

This is the type of stuff that Congress should be sticking their heads into, not whether or not Barry Bonds is using steroids. Pretty sure steroids aren't against the law to use... just against the rules of his job. How is what EA and Take 2 doing not against the law?

Actually, steroids are a controlled substance... they're pretty much illegal without prescription

Blah. Okay, maybe so, but that still doesn't explain why Congress is going after baseball players? What if I was growing weed in my backyard? Would Congress be subpoenaing me to come testify? Not a chance in hell. So because he's famous, they care? Bah. I understand it, sure, but I think that if given the choice between baseball players and EA/Take 2, they should be going after EA and Take 2. Of course, what do I know?

I remember when Acclaim got the exclusive rights for the NFL. That lasted about a year. Now Acclaim is going back into the basement...

Acclaim hasn't done much of anything in a long time. I don't even remember what their signature franchises were before they made a string of decent games for the N64. They used to be huge.

The N64 saved them then they went back to making crap games after they made loads of money and thought they were doing good again. I don't know why they didn't learn from the first time, but they needed to understand to pick and choose quality games... which they did on the N64 until later in its lifespan

Acclaim: I will never forgive them for the Turok series of games. ACK!

What? Turok was great. Well, maybe not great, but it did make console shooters playable for me by using the C buttons to move forward and backwards and strafe. If a console shooter doesn't have some implementation of the Turok controls, I can't play it to this day. I have nothing against console shooters, really, but that's the main reason I prefer PC shooters: none of the console ones allow me to play easily by not having a good control scheme. Running with the analog sticks just doesn't cut it.

ah. the analog sticks makes more sense in my opinion.  Its very analagous to the asdf/mouse thing in my opinion.  Turok was just a crappy game; console shooter or not.  Turok 2?!!! ack!  it did NOT get it any better.

See, I have to disagree. If you think of the C buttons on the N64 as being the keyboard for WASD/ESDF/whatever and the analog stick as being the mouse, that's what seems the most natural to me. It's mirrored since the C buttons are on the right and the stick on the left unlike most peoples' PCs where the mouse is on the right, but it's more or less the same. Turok's controls were the best that have ever existed on a console shooter (although even those pale in comparison to kb/mouse). Working both sticks in Halo is just so... unnatural, to me.

I loved the Turok series. The first two game were good, Turok 3 was mediocre, and Rage Wars was... confusing. Never played Evolution.

And I absolutely killed in GoldenEye using the Turok scheme as it was called. My friends hated my manueverability in GoldenEye with that scheme.
