Repeated head trauma can cause brain damage

« on: Apr 11, 2005, 06:54 PM »

Hard to believe it's already episode 17. I've been looking forward to this episode the past week just as much or more than any other episode of 24, I think. Last week ended at such a great place. Tonight's episode should be killer and one of the best episodes ever, I think. How could it not be? Air Force One has been shot at and the President may be killed. I can hardly wait for 9:00.

One thing wrong with the football: There should have been at least an arm attached to it via handcuff...

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. It's not like showing a severed hand or arm is too gruesome for 24 to show. I wonder how that detail was missed.

Also, what happened to the F-117? Aren't those nuclear-capable?

F-117As can theoretically carry any armament in the US inventory but this one was apparently carrying conventional weapons. I believe F-117s can only carry up to four missiles/bombs.

And you must have forgotten the hacksawed head from Season 2 so the producers of 24 are not against showing body parts, especially since every episode this season has had the "Viewer Discretion Is Advised" disclaimer.

I didn't forget about the head from season 2. That's why I said that that showing a severed hand isn't too gruesome for 24.

Maybe the guy was incinerated or something. That protective outer case was crap when they found it.

True, but the handle was intact. I'm pretty sure the cuffs that link the football to the ball carrier are at least in the handle of the football instead of just the outside case.

Maybe that will be brought up. Like maybe someone on the plane was working with the terrorists.

That's possible. I hope they do something to explain it. But my guess is that if Jack didn't say anything about it the other night, they probably won't ever explain it. Most people probably don't know that much about the football and how the whole thing works, anyway, so they won't even know the difference.

As far as I know, the football doesn't even have a protective outer casing. And I don't know why they're making a big deal out of this football thing when they can easily cancel the codes and activate a new football.

Jack wasn't going to say anything because the guy that found it didn't say anything. Jack could think that the case was attached to someone and just didn't bother to ask this poor guy and his wife if there was an arm laying next to it. That would be gross.

Oh, and hey, what's up with Marwan telling people that he won't hurt them and they believe it? Hello!....Terrorist....

According to the Maxim article a few years ago (it's in one of the four or five Maxims I keep in the bathroom that I just read over and over again, heh), there's a leather casing around the football that covers up the titanium of the actual case. They showed a picture of the ball carrier with the football and the cuffs weren't actual handcuffs, either. There were two wristband-type things, one around the ball carrier's wrist and the other around the handle, I think, of the football. Instead of just a short chain, there was what looked like a retractable tether, like on those variable-length dog leashes.

They're making a big deal about the football because it not only contains the launch codes, but the locations of thousands of warheads. Even without the launch codes, that information still has to be considered vital to national security.

Good point about Jack. He would have known that the ball carrier was dead or otherwise incapacitated for the football to have gotten away from him. If the football is out of the carrier's hands, it doesn't really matter how, just that it is. Either that or Fox just decided that the football wasn't going to be physically attached to someone. Why, I don't know.

Ya. I could go read the article again if we're wanting to discuss the football in more detail. But I think I covered the main points in my last post.
