Our local radio station had a thing going yesterday about kids' birthday parties that have gotten out of hand.  Like having to have ponies and stuff like that.  One girl was asked what she wanted for her sixteenth birthday.  She said a pool party.  Her parents didn't have a pool, though.  So they freaking went out and had an inground pool built for her birthday this month!

Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing if anyone here can remember a special birthday party they had and why it was special.  Or a total disaster one.

Elmono, do you even remember the Chunky Cheese party in Virginia?

I think most of my birthday parties were pretty uneventful. We never did anything crazy and we never had any disasters or anything. When they were kids, though, my dad and aunt and grandparents were getting ready to have birthday cake for my aunt's birthday. She went to blow out the candles and blew the wax all over the adjacent wall. I think this was back in the early 60s when they were like 8 and 10 or so.

Yes, I remember Chuck E. Cheese's.

Super, you don't remember the huge donut fight we had for my birthday party at the Quality Inn in Bellevue? Smiley Or when my mom booked ass to get Davey to the theater in time for Godzilla? I still make fun of her for that to this day

Um, donut fight?  You must have cleaned that one up or hid the evidence.

I had forgotten about the Crazy Mama driving 80+ MPH getting out to Oak View AMC 24 with Davey.  It's really the only time I've ever gone over the speed limit.   Grin

I remember elmono's birthday at the Embassy Suites.  On the way there (I think it was his 12th birthday, maybe?), Kyle Thomas started singing the song from "Beauty and the Beast" - "be our guest, show your breasts, and let the boys do the rest".  It was all RichN could do not to drive off the side of the road with laughter.

At least we were smart parents - we had elmono's parties in hotel rooms.

Bwa ha ha, yeah, I remember the donut fight. That was... bad, hehe. White powdered donuts sure do make a mess.

And yeah, I remember your mom driving Davey out to the theater. Not as well as I remember the donut war, though.

I had forgotten about the party at Embassy Suites.

And we did not hide the donut fight. You and dad went into our room and watched us having the fight. For once, you didn't care what the maid thought which was amazing...

I don't really remember the party at Embassy Suites. I assume I was there, though?

Of course you were. That was the summer I decided to not wear socks with my shoes and my feet smelled like mad.

OMG!  I forgot about that!  I believe we put your shoes outside on the balcony because we couldn't stand them.

Now, my birthday reclection is my twelfth birthday party.  A sleepover with the girls.  My mother proudly presented my gift.  My first box of sanitary napkins.
