Wow... just wow. One of the best episodes ever. This one had me on the edge of my seat. I was just waiting for that damn countdown clock to reach 11:00 before the missile was fired but it didn't... Air Force One is gone. Man, what an episode. The tension was great throughout the whole thing. And they actually called it an F-117A. Yay!
Cannot wait for next week's episode. Damn.

Almost forgot something: The late President mentioned that this day was the worst America has gone through. Did he forget about 9/11? Or even the threat of the nuclear bomb in Season 2?

I was wondering about that, too. Although they never mentioned 9/11 on 24, did they? Maybe 24 takes place in a fictional world where 9/11 didn't happen? They never mentioned it on The West Wing and 4 of the 6 seasons took place after that day. Maybe he didn't include the events of season 2 because it was a threat and the bomb was detonated out in the middle of the desert with (as far as we know) only one casualty. In season 4, there's been what, a train derailment, a nuclear power plant meltdown, and an attack on Air Force One? A "bigger" day than any of the previous seasons, I think, and even if 9/11 took place in the 24 world, maybe bigger than 9/11. You left Pearl Harbor off your list, which I still consider one of the worst days in American history.

24 debuted after 9/11, as evidenced by much of the footage of the plane blowing up in Episode 1 being taken out and all other mentions of the plane throughout the season minimized

Right, but other shows have made mention of the post-9/11 world. I can see Fox laying off on the things that would remind us of 9/11 so soon after it happened (the plane in season 1, like you said), but it's been 3 1/2 years and other shows mention it. I don't see why they'd not mention that as the worst day in American history. I don't think you'd get much disagreement that that day was the worst day this country has ever had.
You say late President. I'm not going to try and argue that his prospects are good, but he's not dead yet.

I'm pretty sure much of the stuff CTU can do in 24 is a direct result of 9/11 however

I'm not sure if 9/11 or the threat of a nuclear bomb was as big as having such a large area become contaminated. Basically, it's like if the bomb had gone off. Not to mention, numbers showed that it had a higher casualty rate than 9/11.
