Repeated head trauma can cause brain damage

« on: Mar 31, 2005, 09:51 PM »

There was finally a new episode last night and mmmm, did it deliver. I was reading the Lost discussion thread over at some other forums that I read and thought I'd repost some of the interesting tidbits in the series recap here for those of you that watch the show but don't necessarily follow it voraciously like the folks over at SA do.

- The plane was traveling from Australia to Los Angeles.
- The crew lost communication and was turning back towards Fiji when the plane crashed.
- According to the pilot, they're at least 1000 miles off course.
- The names Locke and Rousseau are those of famous philosophers John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Locke's monologue about light and dark and the episode title Tabula Rasa where some ideas of the philosopher John Lock.
- The papers Sayid took from Rousseau are parts of a clue to the location of Black Rock, which seems to be quite an important location on the island. Rousseau?s science team found a radio tower by the black rock. After the sickness consumed her team, she changed the transmission from the numbers to the distress signal.
- Ethan Rom is an anagram for "other man".
- Rousseau had a list of numbers: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 which were the same numbers Hurley won the lottery with. Through a chain of people, the numbers Hurley used can be directly connected to the island. Rousseau?s ship picked up the transmission of the numbers, and they turned to investigate, which ended up being a BIG mistake. Rousseau agreed with Hurley that the numbers were cursed, and he was very thankful that someone finally believe him about the cursed numbers. The numbers are carved onto the metal object that Locke found in the jungle.

Character Connections:

    * Sawyer met Jack?s father in a bar in Australia. Sawyer may have bought him the bottle that killed him, and Jack?s father gave him advice that ended up encouraging him to murder an innocent man.
    * Sawyer has slept with the woman who announced the lottery numbers Hurley won with.
    * Boone was in an Australian Police station at the same time as Sawyer. Sawyer ended up being dragged off in handcuffs for an unknown reason.
    * The first time Jin went to the Korean secretary of Environmental Protection, Hurley could be seen on television in the background.
    * Hurley might own part of the box company Locke worked for.

The Cursed Numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42)

    * The latitude 4.815 and longitude 162.342 are located in the Pacific ocean northeast of Australia.

4

    * The number of years ago that Locke was paralysed.
    * The number of years ago that Sam Toomie committed suicide.
    * Leonard was playing Connect Four.
    * The number of years since Sawyer made his birthday wish.
    * The number of Aces (value 1) that are on Boone?s t-shirt. Also, Boone has another t-shirt with Asian letters that say 84.
    * Number of months Michelangelo stared at marble ?working? in Locke?s story. Boone then asks if they?re going to stare at the hatch for 4 months

8

    * Number of years since Michael was hit by the car.
    * The number of years Michael didn?t see Walt.
    * The number of people who died in a fire in Hurley?s shoe factory in Canada.
    * The number of months Claire was pregnant when the plane crashed.
    * Boone has a t-shirt with 84 on it in Asian letters.
    * Number of months Locke was talking to Helen before the crash.
    * Number of days Charlie went without his guitar before Locke returned it to him.
    * Number of weeks Driveshaft was going to go on tour.
    * Shannon?s age when her father married Boone?s mother.

15

    * The number of members of Rousseau?s research team.
    * The watches on the plane stopped at 3:15 PM, or 15:15.

16

    * The number of years Rousseau has been on the island (after hearing the numbers transmission that brought her science team there).
    * The number of hours the flight to L.A. was going to take.
    * The number of hours after the crash when the pilot was found.

23

    * The sum of both parts of the plane?s flight number.
    * Jack?s seat number on the plane was 23A.
    * The reward for turning in Kate was $23,000

42

    * Leonard was playing Connect 4. 42 is the number of spaces on a connect four game board.
    * Uh? if you add the time the plane crashed (15:15 (30) to two other cursed numbers ( 4 + 8 ), you get 42.
    * Rousseau wrote down the number sequence seven times, creating a matrix that totals 42.

815

    * The flight number of the plane.
    * The number of the safety deposit box Kate robbed.
    * Charlie was trying to sell Copier model 815-C.

The numbers bit is, to me, the most fascinating thing about the show. But some of the character connection things are pretty crazy, too. I don't remember some of the things that are listed above, but most of them, I do remember and those of you that watch the show regularly probably will. JJ Abrams has done an amazing job with the show thus far and my fears that it was going to end up just being a one-season thing are really starting to subside (Ha! Finally, it's only the 19th episode of the season). Although I am still wondering a bit how long it can actually go.

It's going to be two awesome months of TV leading up to the 2-hour (!!! It apparently was set at 90-minutes) season finale.

So, should we start the pool for who ends up dying?  One of the main characters and while the actors know who it is, they ain't saying.

JJ Abrams has indicated that the finale will be talked about more over the summer than "Who Shot JR?"  For this Lost fan, I am extremely excited it's finally back with new episodes.  Thank goodness sweeps month is coming up.

I do remember most of the character connections.  We usually tape the episodes since we're not home on Wednesday nights and then watch it at our leisure Thursday night.  I believe that's the best way to do it - you can rewind if you miss something (or your spouse decides to actually talk to you during the show).

Now, Third Watch is finally back with new episodes next week.  I've missed that show.

I don't think I can make any sort of accurate prediction as to who might get offed, really. There doesn't really seem to be anyone that isn't expendable, Jack and Locke excluded. And probably Sayid, too. Other than that, I think that anyone is on the table. Although Jack, Locke, and Sayid are also on the table, from what I've heard. I saw an interview with Terry O'Quinn yesterday, and I don't know if it's current or not, but I think he said that the cast didn't yet know who was going to be killed.

Ya, I watch the episodes from a recorded source as well since I like to play some things back to make sure I heard something right or saw something I thought I saw.

As for the finale, it's going to be awesome and I know it's going to drive me crazy all summer. I don't specifically remember it, but someone said that they saw Ethan breathing when he was buried... how would that be for the final shot of the season? Ethan's face, looking all pissed off and stuff. Man, that'd drive everyone nuts for months.

It's certainly a great show. Without a doubt the best new show this season.

I'll try and add new things to this topic whenever the topic over at SA is updated. They do a good job of staying on top of all the little things (like all those number things... some of those are nuts) over there. Stuff that I'd never pick up on.

How far into the season are you guys?

I'm seriously loving this show and can't wait until the new episodes start airing here again. I don't know what the deal with all these huge breaks is. I read that they were initially taken by surprise at how big the fan reaction to the show was and they had to scramble to write past the first half of the season. But that was months ago. I don't know why it seems like we get one or two new episodes and then a month-long break every time.

That's like episode what, 6, 7, something around there?

You'll probably want to skip the entire original post as it will spoiler a lot of things.

Yeah, I'd skip most of this thread if I were you. And actually, if it were me, I'd not even be in the thread, hehe. If I'm reading forums and I see a thread about a show I've not watched yet, I avoid it like the plague.

Chloe likes spoilers. Don't let her fool you. She was grilling me on 24 stuff. Shame shame. hahaha

Lost is worth not be spoiled. Trust me. They leak little things in each episode and what's in the original post is a compilation of what has transpired over the course of the season. Like 24, but a lot different. I'd compare it more to skipping ahead in a book and reading a chapter here, a chapter there. A valid argument could be made that all spoilers are that way, but I think it's just different with Lost. Kind of hard to explain. It's worth it to avoid spoilers for it. I guess you guys'll just have to trust me Smiley
