Leetness in a basket.

Multi Theft Auto adds networked multi-player to the Windows versions of Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This ingenious "giant hack" illustrates just how far a commercial game can be extended beyond a typical "mod," even if one does not have access to the original source code. The developers sum up what it took to create their unofficial mod: open source software (RakNet and Crazy Eddie's GUI System), along with lots of time, persistence and junk food.

Is this more of a final version now? I remember reading about this back when GTA:VC was all the rage but I never actually tried it. It'd be totally worth reinstalling if it's a stable version.

Edit: k, that site is massively slow... it's been loading for like 5 minutes now.

Yes, it's MASSIVELY slow, but that's the slashdot effect you're seeing.  And it's a redesigned core that should be much faster, more stable and leet.

I'm not a huge fan of MMORPGs (maybe it's due to the fact that I've never played one...? Not the point...), but Rockstar could have something if they had a GTA MMORPG. Make an absolutely monstrous world (San Andreas is huge, but I'm talking like the entire country or something here) and let people have at it. If nothing else, there's great potential in having it be something like Counter-Strike, only with gang wars instead of counter-terrorists and terrorists. GTA:SA introduced the gang war concept; take it a step up and make a game out of it. People'd be all over that.

Don't forget the creator of GTA is making an MMORPG where you can be either the law or in a gang

The nice thing is Rockstar is looking the other way on this since they're not doing it for profit... It's free work that results in more play of the game... Good for everyone

Well, that's good. That Rockstar isn't coming down on them with some mighty wrath or something. Square did that on some guys making a remake of Chrono Trigger that looked absolutely fantastic a year or so ago. Bastards. What they should have done was hire those guys to actually make the game foro them. Chrono Trigger would sell like crazy if they re-released an updated version. I know for sure that I'd be the first in line for a Game Boy remake of it.
