Vengeance said I'd like the book.  She was right.  She said I'd cry.  She was right.  I started the book on Sunday and I'll finish it tonight - Monday.  I sat in the car at lunch today and bawled my eyes out.  I won't say why because RichN will get upset.

A few quotes from the book that got me going -

"There wasn't a lot of bullshit in my heaven".

" 'How to Commit the Perfect Murder' was an old game in heaven.  I always chose the icicle:  the weapon melts away".

"I knew one of the things that heaven meant.  I had a choice, and it was not to divide my family in my heart".

This is a great book about the afterlife with no religious attachments.  Really makes you think about things.  I know that my living will is getting printed out and signed ASAP.

I'm glad you liked it! The part where she was watching her sister lose her virginity kind of made me sad. She got to see what she missed out on and I think the fact that she acknowledged that she was no longer able to know what was going on with her sister was heart breaking. That connection was lost because her sister was now experiencing things that Susie never would.

But then with the little exchange program that Ruth took part in? That made me cry so badly.

So many times in the book I just wanted her to be alive again and it sucked that you know that's not how it worked. I think that made me take note of my own mortality a bit. Make every second count now. It's our only chance.

I remembered what made me cry so badly.  RichN probably will never read this book.  It's when the damn dog died.  Susie was back with him again.  The way it was told in the book was just so moving.  It didn't help that I was by myself and didn't have any reason to hold back the tears.

The book was so good, I might re-read it this weekend.  It's like the Chicken Soup for the Soul books.  I don't dare read them in public.  I made that mistake once at a mall food court over lunch.

The dog dying got to me, too. It was like she finally wasn't alone. And the thing with the grandpa got me, too. I cried a lot with that book.

Everytime I hear of someone dying like that(we've had so many cases in such a short amount of time) I tell myself that it was a release to get away from what was being done and they're in a better place now.

Small comfort, but it's something.
