Had to start a new thread on this one.  This one pisses me off totally.

Watching the coverage of Brian Nichols, the story goes to outside the building where they were currently holding Nichols.  The reporter is interviewing two "lawyers".  From the Georgia Capitol Defenders Office.  Christopher Adams, a "lawyer", was extremely upset because the cops wouldn't let he and his partner into see their "client".

This was about an hour after Nichols surrendered.

Adams contended that Nichols had the right to legal representation.  And that's what Adams wanted to do.  To tell him not to talk to the cops.  Adams actually said that to the reporter.  The reporter then asked if Adams was called by Nichols and retained.  Adams said no!  He was there because this was a capitol offense and they were "trying to help out".  So they were pissed they weren't allowed to see Nichols.

This ticks me off because these guys were clearly trying to get camera time and not really trying to help Nichols get a fair trial.  It also pisses me off royally because I was insisting on a lawyer from minute one for me and no one listened.  They wouldn't even allow my husband to post bond or bail for me.  Why the hell should Nichols get better treatment than me?  I guess I should have picked up a gun and shot someone.  Then the lawyers would have been beaten down my door.

Those lawyers are correct that he has the right to legal representation, but only if he requests it. If he hasn't yet, then there's nothing they can do and they have no more rights to see Nichols than the reporters do.

As for you, I'm telling you now...there should have been a lawsuit. Asking for a lawyer and not getting one is a BIG no no in law enforcement. Hell..you could have been rich.  Wink

Yeah, that's the point.  Nichols deserves a fair trial.  That's a right in our country.  This whole area is tripping over themselves to use the word allegedly in everything.  The only crime Nichols are been charged with is having a weapon when he was arrested.  No other charges have been filed.  He did NOT ask for an attorney.  He expressed an interest in talking with the police.

I'm just worried Johnny Cochrane is going to show up here.
