I'm reading two series right now and I'm loving them.
Kathy Reichs and Karin Slaughter. I've read Deja Dead from Reichs and Blindsighted by Slaughter. I'm on the second Reichs book, Death Du Jour. So far they're both great. Different styles.
I really want disnut to read Kathy Reichs. The main character is Dr. Tempe Brennan and I can't read the book without picturing disnut. Something about this woman's attitude just puts me in mind of my MIL. It's a compliment....I swear.

If you consider all of Tom Clancy's books a series, then that's what I'm reading. Rather, will be reading. I literally just finished Rainbow Six and I'll probably start digging through my mom's books tomorrow to try and find all the Clancy stuff. I want to try and read them in order.

I can't get enough of the Discworld books (Pratchett). It's not an exact series, just more like a bunch of Family Guy episodes. No need to experience them in any specific order. I love the sort of satirical humor that Pratchett pumps into all of his books.
I was never a fan of books until I discovered these a few years ago, but now I'm hooked.

Give me a chance, Vengeance. I'm almost finished reading "Gone With the Wind" for the hundredth time. This time, though, is the first since we've moved to Atlanta. It's been strange reading it from a local point of view. Add to that we're going to be a stone's throw from Jonesboro next weekend.
Supermercado - good luck with Clancy. Start with "The Hunt for Red October" and go from there. If your mother doesn't have a book, let me know and I'll send it your way. You could always read "Without Remorse" before you start with the Jack Ryan series. "Without Remorse" tells the story of how John Clark became the man he is in the other novels. Very good reading and not that technical.

Wosco - Are those actually Family Guy stories? Or are they books based on characters similar to Family Guy?
disnut - I thought that "The Hunt for Red October" was the first book. I guess the order is simple enough - copyright dates? Or did he do anything weird and do prequels or anything like that along the way?
As for other series I've read, my favorite is The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. 10 books right now, all monstrous in size. I think I've read the whole series start to finish 3 or 4 times, which comes out to be like 25,000 pages, haha. That's a ton of reading. It's awesome, though. What I'd love, if one doesn't already exist, is a WoT Essential Guide like the one we're doing for LT. There may be one, though... that would be one gigantic task.

Or did he do anything weird and do prequels or anything like that along the way? Clancy does mix it up later. Initially, he's pretty good with the Jack Ryan stuff. Later, though, he backtracks with John Clark. You are introduced to John Clark way before "Without Remorse" but that tells the Clark history. For me, it was kinda like "oh, now I get the guy". Anyone ever read "The Bastard" series from the 70s? John Jakes? Need to find those again.

I'm sure there are Clancy fan sites out there that have a recommended reading order or chronological order or something that I can go from. I was downstairs looking a few minutes ago and saw 6 or 7 Clancy books but not The Hunt for Red October. I know it's around here somewhere - I've seen it. Maybe my mom knows... Hope so.

The Hunt for The Hunt for Red October continues. Hehe. Downstairs with all the other military fiction books are like 6 or 7 other Tom Clancy books, and a bunch of stuff by guys like Dale Brown, Ken Follett, and Stephen Coonts. There's another Tom Clancy book upstairs on my mom's dresser, too, but The Hunt for Red October seems to be the only one missing. Kind of ironic that it's the one I'm hunting for.

I really got into the Nancy Drew case files series, but I lost track of which ones I read and where I'm supposed to start up next. Don't laugh. Nancy Drew is classic.

No, not Family Guy episodes. I was using it more as a reference to how the books work (not in chronological order). The humor isn't as hilarious as Family Guy. But they are still very funny.

Oh man, I was just thinking the other day to get Demon Child into reading The Bobbsey Twins. I know, I know, I'm really showing my age but come on. I read every single one of those. And Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. Nowadays, all we've got is Harry Potter.
Back to the adult subjects - Supermercado, if you can't find "The Hunt for Red October", try "Patriot Games". Early Jack Ryan.
