After several incredibly annoying months, I think I may have finally solved the AIM disconnect issue I've been having. AIM used to constantly disconnect - every hour or so, sometimes less - and the reconnect. Annoying for me and I'm sure everyone else who has sign on and sign off sounds enabled. At any rate, I was googling the issue and one of he search results was the thread I'd started at AT Networking about two months ago. I stopped checking the thread a few days after I started it, after figuring that no one had any ideas how to fix the problem. I read the thread again and there were quite a few replies this time, people discussing the issue amongst themselves. Apparently, there is no official fix from Netgear, but their latest firmware 5.0.7, I think, happens to prevent the issue from happening. Not necessarily a fix, but if it works, I'm happy. I've been connected to AIM for almost 18 hours now and that's the longest I've been connected in months. Hope it's here to stay.

We've always been able to do that... now we can do it without AIM being stupid and disconnecting me every 15 minutes.

I used to have the same problem with the AIM part of Trillian for a few weeks awhile ago but the issue resolved itself without my intervention

Believe me, I tried that. Not doing anything, I mean. It just kept on truckin'. At any rate, I'm glad the issue appears to have been resolved.

It may be fixed, but it is again broken now...

I told you last night that was included so that the feds would know when the pervert down the street is trying to seduce little Jimmy. That and people trading warez are probably the main reasons it was included is my guess. I don't think AOL is going to step in and take a segment of code that I paste to Nathan and be like "Bwahahaha, we are leet, that is now our code" or anything. I think they probably just want to watch their own ass in case someone uses their program (and servers) to do illegal things.

Maybe so, but they also reserve the right to use your conversations in advertising with that jargon. They probably never will for fear of the public backlash and they're already trying to brush this under the rug, but what's in print is in print.

Ya, I know. It's cheap as hell and totally ridiculous. I don't mean to defend AOL or anything, but I really do think they're just trying to cover themselves in the event that someone uses their software and hardware to coordinate illegal things.

Truer words have never been spoken. I remember when we actually had AOL. It wasn't for long, but we did have it. Back around the time we also had CompuServe and your email address was like 2309582@compuserve.com or something.

I remember those days where you were assigned numbers and couldn't even remember your e-mail address. It was the same with ICQ. No way you can walk up to someone and say, "Oh, you have ICQ? What's your number?" "Uh, I dunno."

I still remember my ICQ number. But I have no idea if the account is still active or if I even remember the password. I remember when ICQ was hot shit. For all the bitching and moaning about AIM, it's really not that bad of a program. Slap on an add-on like AIM+ or GAIM or Aimutation (my personal favorite) and you can get rid of all the ads and other fugly stuff and you've got yourself a pretty nice little program.

I didn't like the way Trillian looked. Maybe it's worth looking into again some day. On the other hand, there's no real reason to do so; I don't use any of the IM clients except AIM...

The only reason that I like Trillian is so that I can be online without people knowing it. Also, so I can talk to some people and others still have no idea that I'm even online.
Yeah, I'm sneaky.
