I figured this was going to happen and my congratulations do go out to Obama, Biden, and their families. I am hoping that Americans were intelligent enough to vote for the issues and not based on popularity or color lines. I guess we will see in the next four years.
As always, I support whoever sits in the Oval Office. But I do have the right to say "I didn't vote for the guy".
Republicans now need to start looking (and now) for a candidate to run in 2012. And no, not Palin.

CNN was already talking about how the GOP was looking at Palin as the face of the party...

Well, by 2012 she would have more experience to run for President than Obama did in 2008.

Rahm Emanuel will be Obama's chief of staff. It's also mentioned that Obama might have some Republicans in his cabinet so he really is sticking with not having party lines. Robert Gibbs, Obama's communications director during his campaign, might be his press secretary. There are also possibilities of Republicans Chuck Hagel (yes, I know, one of Nebraska's senators) and Dick Lugar joining his cabinet. Also according to report, Obama may retain Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense.

He's also planning on using Merrill McPeak (Gen, ret) as Secretary of State... this is the guy who introduced three new uniforms to the Air Force in 3 years, none of which lasted long after his term as Chief of Staff of the Air Force was up. I think that part is a bad move. We'll see.

Military advisors are now telling Obama that his promise of being out of Iraq by mid-2010 isn't going to work. http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20081107/us_timewillobamahavetoadjusthistimetableoniraqThis is one of the biggest issues I had with any of the candidates who promised a quick withdrawal from Iraq. It'll be interesting to see how the planned withdrawal works.

I have an idea for a quick withdrawal from Iraq... just straight up bring the troops home. There, done I know, I know, we destroyed the country so it wouldn't be fare to leave them in that mess. But what they need to do is threaten the Iraqi government to take over their own country or the US will just simply leave. Put it on the Iraqis' heads instead.

I have an idea for a quick withdrawal from Iraq... just straight up bring the troops home. There, done I wish it were this nice and simple. If we bring all the troops home, other folks will still be over there for years to come. If there's no one on the ground, odds are folks like me will still be over there having to watch them from the air, and deploying more because of it. I agree we need to bring them home and hopefully the gradual plan in place will work, otherwise we'll end up right back over there again in 10 years.

Honestly, I don't know why we even have to have such a large presence over there actively engaging against insurgents. Whether they're ready or not, let the Iraqi soldiers handle it. They can't get better unless they're put into situations where they can't always rely on American support.

I think we need to have a presence somewhere in the Middle East. The area is too unstable and we, unfortunately, still rely on them for oil. We all saw what happened in this country when the price of oil went so high. And I had first hand experience with what can happen to a major metro area when gas is severely limited for a few weeks (not because of the oil from the Middle East but because of a hurricane - effects would be the same).
If we pull all our troops out, I wonder who would be right after us to take advantage of the situation. That scares me.

Russia or China. We all know lately Russia is yearning for the glory days of the Cold War... hence their invasion of Georgia.
