Repeated head trauma can cause brain damage

« on: Feb 28, 2005, 12:12 PM »

I was never able to finish the first KOTOR because of school, etc. I want to finish it now that the second one is out so I can play that. But no, both my laptop and my desktop refuse to let me install the first one. I get about 55% done and then I get a CRC error or some crap. I really want to play the second one but I want to finish the first one rather than just having Chris tell me what happens. *sigh*

Real installer or an "installer"?  CRC error means (duh, like you don't know this already) the file is b0rked somehow, so any chance you could get a new copy of the installer?

"Installer." I have two copies of the game and neither work. One I copied from Andrew and another that I got from Chris (who got his copy from me). Neither works. The only other way to get it would be to actually buy it. It's probably cheap now...

It's better to play the second one after playing the first since KOTOR II asks you questions about how you played the first game (although there are options for "I don't remember" and so forth in case you never played the first KOTOR).

Then I guess it's important that I find a way to make this work. I hope I still have my save file around here somewhere. As much fun as KOTOR was, I'm not sure I'd start over again if I can't find it.

I did think of a possible way to get around the CRC errors, though. I know that the source for the bin/cues that I burned on CD is good, so maybe if I made more bin/cues of the discs, I could install/play with Daemon Tools or A120.

Oh, you have got to be fucking kidding me. I just got a CRC error on KOTOR II. What the hell is wrong with my CD drives?

k, KOTOR II is installed. I had to use Alcohol 120 to install it from the images I got from Chris. The images that are burned to the CDs that give me CRC errors. So it's either a bad burn on those discs (and the KOTOR) or my CD-RW and DVD-RW are both going bad. I doubt that this is the case since my DVD-RW is practically brand new.

I'm going to try making bin/cues of both sets of burned CDs and see if I can install via A120. If I can create installable images from the CDs I've got, that would be okay, if slightly inconvenient. Otherwise, I suppose I can burn all four images for each game on a couple of DVDs and just be done with it. Kind of ghetto but I guess you gotta go with what works.

Anyone want to be shocked as hell? Chris actually convinced me to play KOTOR.

I heard that you wanted to play.

And it looks like I may have to either have Chris spoil KOTOR for me or just start playing KOTOR II without knowing what happens in KOTOR. I tried installing from the bin/cues that Chris sent me a few weeks ago and I got an error doing that, too. Stupid computer.

I never wanted to play before, but Chris kept talking about it and got me interested. So then I decided to check it out. Considering that I just showed interest yesterday and Chris was playing it a long time ago? I think that's pretty much showing how long it took to convince me to play. LOL

Oh. My understanding (or interpretation, maybe, is the better word) was that you got interested yesterday while he was playing KOTOR II and rather than jump in on KOTOR II, he suggested that you start with KOTOR.

okkkkk, my understanding, not to spoil anything (plus i havent started kotor II yet either) is that they assume you chose a certain path in the last game, and it starts the game from that scenario.  Meaning that depending on how you answered or chose to act may be different from the one they chose.  anyways, im lookin forward to it!

Yeah, the game does assume certain things but you have the ability to correct the characters who said it, which is basically the game asking you how you played the first game.

KOTOR II has me hooked right now...
