Evidently, the FleetCenter in Boston is trying to come up with a new name since Bank of America bought the Fleet bank.  While they are deciding on a new name, they have been auctioning off one day names to the highest bidder on ebay.  Like one guy named the Center after his wife for Valentine's Day.  All proceeds go to charity.

Along comes a lawyer from New York.  His bid won for March 1.  He wants to name the Center after Derek Jeter.  The FleetCenter hasn't decided if they are going to do it or not.  They do put the name up in the arena and it's featured on the website for the day.

To be fair to the lawyer - he is agreeable if the name isn't used.  He did this as a joke to some long time friends who are from Boston.  He said if they match his winning bid, he'll gladly change his name request.

I heard about the daily names on SportsCenter the other day and they were discussing the possiblity of having someone wealthy from New York rename it to Yankee Center or something along those lines. I was wondering if they'd actually allow the Fleet Center to be renamed to anything related to New York. I guess we'll find out.

Hmmm should I get rid of my Jeter baseball shirt? hahaha. Don't throw anything at me hahaha!! Here in Aus you pretty much only heard about the Yankees. It was 'cool' to wear something saying NY b/c it was American. It wasnt til I wore my new gear I had bought in the US in Boston I realised how bad it was to wear it haha. I went a bit nuts, I was wearing a Yankee cap, baseball shirt (blue, with Jeter and his number on the back) and shorts in Boston hahaha. I dont think the Red Sox fans there liked me very much hahaha. I learnt if I want to survive in Boston, dont wear any yankee gear haha.

That was the bravest thing I have ever heard, Chloe.

Of course, if anyone started picking on you, they'd hear the accent and then you'd be excused long enough to run to the nearest Boston Red Sox store.

How could people mistake a British accent for an Australian accent? They sound so different. Alike, sure, but they're very different.

I think there's a definite similarity between British and Australian accents. Maybe since you've got one of them you don't hear it as much as someone who has neither. Dunno how familiar you are with American accents, and maybe someone else can help me come up with a better example, but it's probably similar to... a traditional southern accent from someone in like SC, GA, or someplace, and someone in... Texas, I guess. Both southern accents that sound alike but there's enough difference to easily tell them apart. That may not be the best example, though.

Okay...they think she's from the UK because she talks so fast and says wanker a lot.

If you ever talk to Chlobug, make sure she says wanker. It cracks me up. She's a very cool Aussie and talks like I do as far as speed. So that should give everyone here who has spoken to me a clue.

You know how I don't take a breath? Yup...that's Chloe and my link. LOL

Wanker is a good word. I use it, too.

Wanker is sweet. It's distinctively British (or Australian in this case)

I knew a kid in high school (the real Brent, Chris) that loved calling people hosers. That was his favorite insult. It was pretty funny to hear him say it, hehe.
