Anyone else heard about this?  The Gummi company is marketing different gummies of animals who have been run over by cars - complete with tire tracks.  Squirrels, snakes, this like that.

PETA is pretty damn pissed about it.  The Gummi company did remove one "ad" on its website that had an animal in the road and then approaching headlights.  But they aren't going to yank the candy.

As an animal lover, I think it's pretty damn funny.

Road kill gummi candy? What the crap? That's just strange. I wonder who let that get past the marketing department. That'd be about the last candy I'd ever expect to see sold.

PETA needs to shut the hell up. They're not real animals so I don't see how that's unethical treatment of animals

Okay...before anyone says anything...my husband has gotten very sick because he was taking care of me. I'm sure this is just a fever talking. I'm just protecting him from the PETA bitches that complain about the treatment of animals, but throw red toxic paint in the faces of humans wearing fur.

PETA does need to shut the hell up, though.

You know, I just had a thought.  Why doesn't PETA bitch about that commercial that shows the two squirrels celebrating because they caused the car to swerve off the road?

And no one in Arkansas will eat the road kill candy.  They can't afford it.

Not PETA, but some animal rights group did get the candy axed...

Kraft Halts Production of Controversial Road Kill Candy

Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy is shaped like flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels -- complete with tire treads.

TRENTON, New Jersey (Feb. 25) - Production of candy shaped like roadkill has come to a screeching halt.

The decision, announced Friday by Kraft Foods Inc., was the result of an outcry by New Jersey animal rights activists who said the candy encouraged children to be cruel to animals.

"We take comments from our consumers really seriously and, in hindsight, we understand that this product could be misunderstood,'' said Kraft spokesman Larry Baumann.

Kraft plans to stop production as soon as possible and then sell off remaining inventory, Baumann said.

The fruity-flavored Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy - shaped like flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels, complete with tire treads - hit store shelves across the United States last summer and was supposed to be another offbeat and unusual addition to Kraft's Gummi candy line.

But the nonprofit New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals thought differently. Earlier this week, it threatened petition drives, boycotts and letter-writing campaigns.

Stuart Rhodes, the organization's president, said he never thought his group's efforts would be so successful.

"Did I think it would happen as fast as I did? No. I guess like most people I've become very cynical. All too often it seems that profit rules all. This was refreshing,'' Rhodes said.

The state of New Jersey designates the NJSPCA the enforcer of its animal cruelty laws. Law enforcement takes up a large part of the group's efforts, but Rhodes has stressed more public advocacy since he took over a year ago.

This is the first time the organization has complained to a company about a product, Rhodes said.

Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. is in the process of acquiring the Trolli brand along with other Kraft candy lines as part of a $1.48 billion deal.

I'm definitely not siding with the extremist animal rights groups or anything, but the roadkill gummi candy was in bad taste.

Wait a minute, wait a minute.  Kraft is letting a bunch of people from New Jersey dictate their policy?  One road kill?  Oh man - those people are so clueless they have to have a turnpike exit number in order to get around the state.  The world is just wrong.

It won't happen very fast.  He's still trying to figure out the turnpike system.  "Great Adventure.  Exit 7A".  That's all you need to know about New Jersey.

Haha. I have no idea what that means, though, really. I've never been to NJ.

Count yourself extremely lucky.  New Jersey is the only state that you can identify by the smell.  They even completely screwed up Atlantic City.  Marvin Gardens?  In the slums.  Park Place.  Slums.

Ocean City, NJ turned out so bad people set up Ocean City, MD that is ten times better.

i think it would be awesome personally.  if people can manage to make money off of all sorts of other gooey stuff, then why not this?  I dont think the average kid is going to be influenced to kill animals by this (and the average kid is NOT going to be able to drive a vehicle and make roadkill just due to size and coordination).  If we can have gummy stuff at halloween that has guts in it (no lie, they make stuff like that) or those wax bats/rats that you can suck the candy juice insides out of, why not this?

Alright, screw you all, rofl...  (Composite thrashing follows)

First and foremost, it's only North Jersey (i.e. NY wannabe) asshats that are turnpike dependent.  In the real parts of NJ, the turnpike doesn't go anywhere useful except the Delaware Memorial Bridge.  7A is the only meaningful exit in central NJ, and everything south can be reached by the (larger and free) I-295.

I still don't like the gummi thing. I just think it's gross, but I don't like those gross things anyway so that's just me.

In the real parts of NJ....

Oh, forgive me, I didn't realize there were "real" parts of New Jersey.  I thought the whole state was just a made up chunk of land.

And if that's a composite thrashing, well, now you know why New Jersey is a complete waste of area.

... lol (that actually made me laugh, so that's worth something  Wink) but ANYWAY... North Jersey = concrete jungle, South Jersey = flora and fauna exist, just to clarify the difference in the two

I have to agree with Catfish on this one.  South Joisey isn't all that bad.  But, I remember driving towards Elizabeth, NJ, and smelling the town before seeing it.  Kinda like smelling a pulp mill down here in the south.  Nasty.
