Nothing about elmono's post pisses me off.  The beginning of the end of the strike happened on my birthday.  I couldn't have asked for a better present.

My wish - let the 2008-2009 television be devoid of all the new "reality" shows that we are forced to have on the air now.  Especially that lame one where people are strapped to a lie detector test.  The last month has reminded me of two Stephen King short stories (actually Richard Bachman).  The Long Walk which is about a walk that starts in Maine and ends whenever the last of the 100 young male contestants is still standing.  You cannot drop below 4 MPH without getting a warning.  If you get three warnings, you are shot.  You do everything while walking - eat, sleep, shit, pee.

The second one is The Running Man and NOT the movie version of it (which was stupid).  In that one, the contestant is let loose and has to survive in America for thirty days.  It's a nationally televised event so his face is known to everyone.  He's given money but a killer is let loose to eliminate the runner any way he can.  If the killer is killed himself, then a second one is sent out.  Then a third, etc.  The whole show is rigged so there's no way the contestant can win.  It's the number one rated show in the country.

I was actually waiting for something like these to show up this winter.

Hey, don't knock The Running Man. I love that movie. It's rare when a movie follows a book exactly anyway. However, that Long Walk story seems like a great idea for a movie.

And NBC has officially announced some of their shows returning in the spring: My Name Is Earl, 30 Rock, The Office, Scrubs, and ER. It's a good thing for Scrubs since this is supposed to be the show's last season.

Now that I'm caught up with The Office, woohoo! Only other one in that list I care about is Earl. I don't think I watch much on NBC in the first place. Only other one that comes to mind immediately is Chuck.

Wow - ER is coming back for it's what 15th?  16th? season?  This was supposed to be the last one for the show but if you've been watching, it's one of the best seasons ever.

Did CBS renew Without a Trace?  That and Cold Case are my strike watched shows.  I'd like to cointinue watching them after the strike.

Just read that Chuck and Life will not return this season but will return for a second season in the fall. And we already knew Heroes wasn't returning this season. Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Medium, Criminal Minds, CSI: NY, Without a Trace, Ghost Whisperer, Numbers, Moonlight, Rules of Engagement, and Shark will return this spring. The Unit and Cane will remain in hiatus as planned to make room for the launch of new mid-season shows.

Saturday Night Live returns on February 23rd with Tina Fey as host.  Interesting to see what a writer will do with the opening monologe.  Ellen Page (Juno) will be the week after that.

Las Vegas (another favorite of mine) has had new shows on for quite a while.  I guess they stockpiled or something.  Just waiting to hear if they will be renewed.

The very few new shows of the 2007-2008 season that I liked are all coming back with the exception of K-Ville.  I doubt Fox will have the balls to bring that back.

Thank goodness Chuck is coming back for Season 2. I love that show.

And I hate reality TV. It's worthless, except for Beauty and the Geek. That one is pretty awesome.

Not true. I'll catch flak for this but Survivor is still pretty good. Amazing Race used to be really good but it's just about bored me to tears the last few seasons. Survivor is still very watchable, I think.

K-Ville is no surprise. It was okay at best and I knew all along that the only reason it was still on was because of the strike.

If you can call American Idol reality TV (is it?) - we watch that.

We liked K-Ville but after about three episodes, it shifted away from the issue of recovering from the hurricane and became just another cop show.  Rich loves Anthony Anderson, though.  I just read where he is more than likely going to take over for Jesse L. Martin on Law and Order for next season.  Yes, Law and Order is supposidly coming back for it's 100th season or something.

Anthony Anderson is the man. He was great on The Shield and the only reason I even started watching K-Ville in the first place.

Anthony Anderson coming to Law & Order next season is unofficially official.  NBC can't make the announcement until Fox officially cancels K-Ville.  I don't know if anyone has been watching the new season of Law & Order but Jeremy Sisto absolutely rocks as the new detective.  It's going to be a great teaming of him and Anthony Anderson.  And since Sam Waterson is now the DA, he's getting upset as his Executive ADA's antics.  Just like all the DAs got upset with Jack McCoy's antics.  It's really funny.  Law & Order is a great show to watch once again.

I made the unfortunate mistake of watching Transformers one time and then watching an episode of K-Ville. Yeah, Anthony Anderson going from comedic to serious in a heartbeat...

Updated the list again to reflect the new shows that premiered and the return of old shows, mostly the comedies of CBS. Also, added the cancellation of Jericho. Yup, it's officially dead and never coming back.

You would think the publicity it got would have garnered a few more viewers. But considering it's a serialized show, many people probably didn't want to get involved in the middle of the show. That's always been a downfall of serialized shows like Lost, 24, Battlestar Galactica, etc. If you want to start watching it, you have to watch everything before it (24 you can probably get away with just watching the current season, though).
