Michael Vick Sentenced

Michael Vick was sentenced today to spend the next 23 months in prison. Less the time he has already served for going in early. The ealiest he can even hope to return to the NFL will be 2010. He was also sentenced to three years probation.
Vick will come out a poor man. He's already paying $1 million for the care of his seized dogs that were taken to various shelters (three are here in the Atlanta area). Shelters will probably have to care for them for the rest of their lives as it's not certain they can ever be adopted by anyone. Also, the Atlanta Falcons are suing him for the $20 million in bonus fees they paid him. Plus the loss of every single endorsement contract he's ever had. And, the NFL hasn't formally announced any suspension yet so it's not even certain he will be able to return to pro football immediately after his release.
And Vick still had supporters outside the courtroom protesting. What the hell can they protest against?
One person said Vick will come out of prison a changed man. He sure will. His asshole will be ten sizes bigger and he'll be talking in a very high voice. Vick the Bitch will be his new nickname.

He'll be alright in prison. Because of his status, it would be irresponsible to throw him in with the general population. Inmates have a sense of anonymity when they enter the system. Vick doesn't have that.
I think he'll serve some time and then manage to get out of most of it through good behavior and deals with public service.
If not, then I hope he takes the time in prison to really change his life around and take responsibility and to apologize to the people who have looked up to him and been hurt by this.

I saw this on SportsCenter tonight and was surprised and pleased that he got a decently long sentence. Deserves every day he spends in the slammer.

Super - I was very surprised at the sentence myself. The defense was asking for 12 months, the prosecution was asking for 24 months. "Experts" thought 18 months would be the sentence because that's what one of the co-conspirators received. The judge is known for his harsher sentences but I didn't think he would go against the "experts" and give Vick this much time.
Venegeance - I hope Vick does come out of prison a changed man. But after hearing him and his apologies so far, I just don't have a feeling that he's sincere. His apologies have sounded rehearsed and wooden. I'll be interested in seeing what he's like in the summer of 2009 which is the earliest he can get out with good behavior.
The people I feel the most sorry for (other than the dogs) are the kids who looked up to Vick. For a whle there, you couldn't even get any other Falcon jersey in this town unless it had a number "7" on the back of it. Two years is a long time for a kid to wait for a hero to come out of prison.
