Only bad thing is it's also bye, bye Torre.  Steinbrenner is such an idiot.  Let's get to the playoffs but if we don't win the whole thing, your ass is grass.  Steinbrenner should just manage the damn team next year and see how well that goes.

On a different topic, I wonder how many bandwagon Cleveland fans I'll see around here. Tigers "fans" popped up everywhere here after last year. So, where was their pride for the Tigers when they stank up the joint?

Three words - fair weather fans.  Although I'll admit that once the Phillies made the playoffs, I was interested.  But I didn't go out and start flying a Phillies flag.  It just meant I would have watched more of the playoffs.  And even though they suck this year and Michael Vick is a complete idiot, I still watch the Falcons.  It's painful but I still watch them.

Hmm, hopefully I can turn this into a "Suck it Red Sox" once the Indians finish giving them their deserved beat down

Well, Torre is not returning to the Yankees. He rejected a $5 million, one year contract to return next year

*sigh* More reasons to despise the Yankees: They think they're bigger than ESPN...

From IMDb: The New York Yankees, insisting that it will decide how and when news about the team will be released, have barred ESPN from covering all future telephone conferences with prospective managers. Yankees PR director Jason Zillo has told Newsday that the cable sports network defied the teams ground rules when it carried live a conference in which the team announced that Joe Torre had turned down his latest contract offer. Therefore, Zillo told the newspaper, he instructed operators not to allow ESPN to cover telephone conferences with managerial candidates Joe Girardi and Don Mattingly. "If the only dialogue ESPN is going to give me is that, 'We are going to do whatever we want to do, ' it leaves me with very few alternatives," he said. ESPN responded, "The most important thing to our fans was for us to provide this major sports news as it was breaking." Zillo insisted that he wanted to resolve the matter but, "I don't have many options if they think they're bigger than the organization they're covering." (The New York Yankees are valued at about $1 billion; ESPN, at about $7.5 billion.)

Yeah... I bet that makes Zillo look like an idiot when they point out ESPN is worth 7 times more than the Yankees...

Didn't some magazines do a ban on all Paris Hilton stories there for a while?  ESPN should stop covering Yankees stories for a while.  Yankees name a new manager?  Next on SportsCenter - how the Falcons can turn around their season.  Yankees bar ESPN from phone interviews?  Yawn.  Next on SportsCenter - will Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon will the NASCAR Champtionship?  Billy Marton comes back from the dead on Halloween and announces he'd like to manage the Yankees in 2008.  Boring.  Next on SportsCenter - Chris Berman's all-tome favorite sports nicknames of anyone NOT on the Yankees.

ESPN is on every morning in every hotel room we stay in.  We'd love to have NO Yankees coverage for a while.

Joe Girardi was named the new manager. Also, Mariano Rivera has filed for free agency. Tons of teams will probably be interested in him
