After listening to Cal at the Hall of fame induction ceremony, this makes perfect sense. The position is supposed to encourage youth to participate in sports, especially baseball and that is what Cal is concentrating on in his life now that he's retired from the game. His speech at Cooperstown was all about kids, including the very funny opening comment about a ten year old boy that Cal was coaching. The boy had no idea who Cal was.
