Saw this yesterday. I believe he had a good run, creating Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Those shows have been on forever.

Merv Griffin's talk show was a staple when I was growing up.  Right after General Hospital was over, Mike Douglas (locally from Philly) came on and then Merv Griffin.  My mother didn't like Merv as much as Mike, though.  Merv had celebrities but he also had topics, not just all fluff.  I never really knew he created Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune until much later.  The man was a millionaire (probably a billionaire) but I don't think he ever really showed it.  RIP Merv.
