We need a books forum. I doubt that I'm the only one that reads although I don't think that anyone reads the things that I do.

I'm reading Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold right now. I already have her first book, Lucky. Both are good reads, but Lucky isn't really a book for the masses. Lovely Bones has had me in tears a few times and I'm not even halfway through the book. It's just done so well and it's done in a way that pulls you into the story.

It's becoming a bandwagon book which is annoying for me, but I'm glad for Alice Sebold. elmono can tell you that I was interested in this book LONG before it became popular. Oh well....with all the demand they stores put it on sale so that I could finally read it. I should be grateful.

Another book that I want to get is FEAR by Kriss Stephens. VERY good ghost book from what I've heard. She's a ghost hunter and a really nice woman. Don't worry about how I know it, but I do. hehehe. Anyway, she's very sweet and I'm really looking forward to reading her book. If you get the chance, check it out.

Don't know anything about any of those books...

I started reading Rainbow Six the other day, though. Maybe I'll actually read all the way through it this time.

What's Rainbow Six? Who wrote it? What's it about?

Tom Clancy. It's about an elite, international counter-terrorist unit. Made up of guys from the SAS, Delta (and maybe Rangers and Green Berets, too), GSG-9, and the GIGN.

Lovely Bones is about a teenage girl who is murdered. She goes to heaven and that is where she tells the story. It's about her watching things on Earth with her family and her killer. It's pretty cool.

The Lovely Bones is also going to be a Peter Jackson movie. Rainbow Six already is a successful series of video games, influencing the way squad-based first-person shooters are played now. In fact, Tom Clancy wrote the book based on the game (which he created, BTW).

I think once I'm done with Rainbow 6, I'm going to read all the rest of my mom's Tom Clancy books (or maybe they're my dad's... that would fit better). They've got pretty much all of them sitting downstairs. Hardcovers, too. Good stuff... The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, it's all there.

Oh, yes, a book forum - let's go for it.? The absolute favorite book of mine?? If anyone reads this book and isn't affected by it, well, let me know.? "Watership Down" by Richard Adams.

We have every single Stephen King story ever written.? In first edition.? Plus a reading copy.? The man could publish a grocery list and I'd read the damn thing.

Right now I'm duel reading "Gone with the Wind" (for the 27th time) and "The Bachman Books".? I just finished "Watership Down" for about the 50th time.

I think my mom has those, too

Yeah, I do.? Supermercado, you have to read the entire Jack Ryan storyline.? Then read "Executive Decision".? This is a great book.? The entire American government is destroyed by a suicide airline pilot.? Yes, shades of 9/11 but Tom Clancy wrote about it a few years earlier.? Think about it - having to reinvent the IRS, the CIA, the FBI, Congress, and all the governors (I think two or three were on vacation).? A President that was never elected (I know, Ford was never elected either).? Very interesting and a great thread for a book forum.

I'm interested - I'd even be willing to be a moderator.

Well, 2 votes for a new forum, how can I say no? Rather than create a whole new board for it, I just made an Off Topic subforum. I think it fits there nicely. As you can tell, disnut and Vengeance are mods. If either of you have any problems with mod permissions, let me know.

When September 11 happened, the news people got Tom Clancy on the line because he had written about a similar scenario. I bet it freaked him out that it really did happen and a plane was aiming for the White House but missed...

You'll get your wish.  I'm going to FINALLY finish up "Gone With the Wind" tonight and then it's off to Borders to find "Lovely Bones" this weekend.

Then we can talk.

Wait, wait, wait... you've never read Gone With the Wind? And you had a big poster on the wall in the house in Bellevue? I think...?

Heh, you remember that... I don't think it ever moved from that spot on the wall the entire time we lived there

The Gone With the Wind poster was over the desk in Bellevue.  I couldn't ever move it.  It's a 50 year anniversary poster 1939-1989.  It's in our bedroom here in Georgia.

You guys do realize that next year will be the 70th anniversary of the book being published?  It's like a fine wine - ages with grace.

Okay, so long as we're clear, hehe. I didn't think there was any way that someone with a gigantic poster hadn't read the book.

And yes, Chris, I remember it. My memory works in a strange way sometimes.

That Gone With the Wind poster was nothing compared to the full size Fox and the Hound poster that was in the kitchen for the longest time

I'm reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton right now, good stuff.  Premise is a story with actual facts thrown in using footnotes, academic journals, etc.  It basically involves a conspiracy by Environmental organizations (crazy tree huggers) who find out global warning is NOT happening, and take matters into their own hands...

Hey - I resemble that remark!  I just got three new Kathy Reichs books today.  I think I've got all of them now.  Oh, and a guide to Disney cruises.

coo, no offense, these people in the book take it to the extreme though, and are willing to kill quite a few people, so in the book they really are crazy!
