With the sad state of school education these days, I certainly hope the Cold War does not get buried in the history books.  That was an extremely frightening time in America.  Kids of today have to understand that the Soviet Union was once, if not more powerful that the United States, almost as powerful.  Yeltsin did what he could to lead his people through a very trying time.  Unfortunately, as with every politician, he'll be remembered for his shortcomings.  RIP Boris.

Well, for the kids of today, terrorism is kind of more important than the Cold War. Marlie is going to be taught 9/11 in school more than the Cold War. She was only 3 when it happened.

So she shouldn't be taught about the Revolutionary War or the Civil War or World War I or II because she wasn't born yet?  The American Depression?  The Civil Rights Movement?

That's my point - The Cold War will be shuffled off somewhere because "it's not important today".  Everyone who had a hand in that is dead.  But Southern states are supposed to apologize for slavery.  History is history and it all needs to be taught because when the pieces of the puzzle are put together, you get America and the world, today.  You can't let pieces of it out.

I never said that, I said there would be more focus on 9/11

But why?  The attacks on 9/11 and the Cold War both thrust this country into a period of nervousness and insecurity.  One more recent than the other.  Both need to be addressed.

I dont think theres a question of whether things need to be addressed or not, but rather a statement that its likely things will happen one way or the other.

I can personally say that yes the Cold War is important, but now that we no longer live in a Cold War environment, it'll most likely shift to the tragedy of 9/11 and more importantly the fallout of which we are still dealing with today.  When Marlie's in high school, we will most likely still be dealing with Iraq and Afghanistan.  I don't even think the focus will be 9/11 the event as much as the Global War on Terror (technically basically a new Cold War with overt actions).

As I said, I never mentioned the Cold War wouldn't be addressed. Believe me, it will be, but future generations are being raised in the post-9/11 world. So tell me which one would get more focus. And I said MORE focus. I never said one isn't going to just disappear in history. As I said before, the Cold War is important but kids are no longer being raised in Cold War conditions. They are being raised in the post-9/11/War on Terror conditions. It's like saying kids shouldn't have be taught like that in the Duck & Cover nuclear era because chemical warfare in WWI is still a historical event that needed to be covered so nuclear warfare shouldn't get more focus. And if this reads strange, I have a baby in my lap so it's hard to concentrate Smiley
