Man, that sounds serious. I've never even heard of a Blue Angel pilot or a Thunderbird pilot crashing during an air show.

Pretty crazy, yeah. Beaufort is like 25 miles from here, too.

that's so sad that the pilot died!  I feel for people in the flying career field, because there's a lot of inherent danger in operating a vehicle that many times in such a volatile environment.  Being a Blue Angel is even more so, since you're constantly stressing an aircraft to the limits.

There are several instances for both the Blue Angels and ESPECIALLY the Thunderbirds for crashes, with a few during air shows.  I was really bored at work one day and Wiki'ed both to learn the history and the different planes each service used for their teams.

But it's a testiment to their skills that it doesn't happen more often, to the point where I have never heard of an incident.
