I just wanted to see what you guys think of two songs on this site. Yeah, I know it's MySpace but their main site is being rennovated right now.

Venaculas

Listen to "Open Your Eyes" and "By the Way"

I can honestly say that the Venaculas thing for me was along the lines of "awesome, classmates of mine are doing something neat" though I didnt like a lot of their music.

I like "Open Your Eyes" a lot.  There's a lot of musical elements going on.  The screaming vs. singing thing has been there, but i think this is the strongest they've been with it so far.  I'm huge into metalcore, bands like Killswitch Engage and old school industrial metal like Fear Factory, and there's some of that influence here.  I think the biggest thing is these two songs have the slickest production I've heard from the Venaculas, and it adds a lot.

Looking forward to the full-length these will hopefully appear on.

That's what I thought. Those two songs just sounded so different from previous Venaculas songs. I just needed an unbiased opinion about it and I got one from the music expert. I told Davey, the drummer, that I loved Open Your Eyes. Getting that new bass player who also sings was a real turning point for the band, I think. I'm still wondering why they haven't been signed while crappy bands are being signed left and right.

I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet - I'm about to do so right now, in fact - but was that new bass player the one that came on a few years ago, like in late 2003 or early 2004? I remember listening to that album and thinking the same thing, that everything was much better with him on board.

His name is Eric, I think. Their previous bass player, Pat, wasn't that great and was really only in the band because he was friends with Jason and Chad I think. Last I heard, Pat is now all drugged up. Sucks.

He's definitely made an improvement. It sounds like the rest of the band has gotten better in the last few years, as well, just as far as playing ability.

I've gotten Davey to try to look into doing a little tour now with a stop in Toledo Smiley

They're good, but that group needs to start seriously busting ass to get something done. Travel to get their sound out there is a good first step.

I never post in this forum but....

Has Venaculas looked into checking out the Atlanta music scene?  It's probably not the right fit for them but one station just went over to some crap I've never heard of before.  Project 96.  Atlanta is really a hotbed of independent record producers.  It's not all country and rednecks stuff down here.  Plus, the guys could have free room and board if they wanted to travel here to check things out.

Sevendust is from Atlanta and they kind of are the same genre as the Venaculas, so it could bode well.

There's a lot of metal bands from GA right now, so you never know.
