That would be an A-10. They are mean.

The A-10 is sweet, it'll be in my upcoming article

The one on the left is an F-15 Eagle, the one on the right is an F-22 Raptor, and the one in the lead is a P-51 Mustang.

Vengeance still wonders how I'm able to identify these things

Simple - genetics.  From his grandfather on down.  A 76 year old man who gets giddy when we give him the latest issues of Air Force magazine.

I used to play with the Ertl diecasts of planes when I was a kid, so that probably helped. My dad can tell you all about it. I even had the diecast of what they thought the F-117A was going to look like... and it was way way way way off. Maybe I can find a picture

My grandpa asks us trivia. There was one time where me, my brother, and my dad spent a good 20-30 minutes trying to come up with the 10 greatest military leaders ever according to some list my grandpa had seen. I think we eventually got them all but somehow, we missed Alexander, who ironically, I believe was number one.

Found it

It was referred to as the F-19, which doesn't exist, and was that basis for what people thought the Stealth Fighter looked like, which the government denied existed until 1988.

My father and I connected early in life on airplanes, so I used to study them and learn every fact I could about them, as well as to learn about all sorts of crazy obscure aircraft.  Oddly enough, I pretty much get paid to do the same thing now.

That F-19 looks like an SR-71.

I think the SR-71 looks far different. I love how those things leak fuel when they're on the ground

I forgot about them.  Those things were freaking heavy!  Definitely not for playing war.  And I believe they were made in Iowa?

Wikipedia to the rescue... and you are right. Except since the early 1990s, Ertl diecasts are made in Mexico

When I was visiting my sister in Atlanta last weekend, I saw 3 A-10's flying in formation.  Apparently there's a military base there.  I also saw a chopper (blackhawk, maybe?) and some kind of transport jet.

Nice. Yeah, with a city as big as Atlanta, I would think there's a base nearby. Of course, you'd have to ask my parents about that one.

Well, Rolando's at Warner Robins which is under 2 hours to Atlanta. Could be from there. Not the Black Hawk, though, I suppose; aren't those more Army? I don't know if there's an Army Air Field near Atlanta but there is Hunter down near Savannah. That's kind of a long way for a Black Hawk, though, I'd guess.

Yes, most of the military choppers are Army, especially the Black Hawk.

There's Dobbins AFB, just north of Atlanta.  It's not really a functioning base anymore, I think its mostly contractors and ANG, or in Georgia, GAANG, haha.  I have a GAANG patch somewhere.  They have Marine F-18s flying out of there as well.
In the Air Force's defense, they have a good amount of PaveHawks which are just suped up Black Hawks for SpecOps.

Also Ft. McPherson is near ATL as well, explaining the Army folks.  Ft. Benning is only 2 hours from ATL as well, and they are HUGE!  That's where the Airborne Rangers train.  Only an hour south of Ft. Benning is Ft. Rucker in Alabama, which is the helicopter pilot training school, considered the home of Army aviation.  They have a sweet musuem there.

Warner Robbins is the biggest one around here.  It's south of Atlanta.  Ft. Benning is to the west and it's barely out of what is considered the Atlanta metro area (Atlanta metro extends west all the way to the Alabama border).

We're in the northeast, about an hour to downtown Atlanta (but in the metro area) and we get military choppers from time to time.

But ask a native Atlantan what I just told you and they wouldn't know it.

i loved the Lightning just for the fact it had a huge supercharger on each engine that was exposed.  Not to mention all the firepower and the twin-boom design that hasn't really been used much since.
