They're really trying to make this into a serious movie to get the fans back Matt Damon is apparently extremely close to playing James T. Kirk. Two other actors negotiating but not as close as Damon are Adrian Brody as Spock and Gary Sinise as McCoy. Other early stage negotiations include Daniel Dae Kim (Jin from Lost) as Sulu and James McAvoy (Tumnus from Narnia) as Scotty. And, yes, JJ Abrams is still producing and directing this flick. Should be good stuff. LINKEDIT: Obviously this is no longer true. Matt Damon, Adrian Brody, Gary Sinise, Daniel Dae Kim, and James McAvoy have nothing to do with this movie. The new and official cast: Chris Pine ( Smokin Aces) as James T. Kirk Zachary Quinto ("Heroes") as Spock Karl Urban ( Lord of the Rings) as Leonard "Bones" McCoy John Cho ( Harold and Kumar) as Hikaru Sulu Simon Pegg ( Shaun of the Dead) as Montgomery "Scotty" Scott Zoe Saldana ( Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl) as Nyota Uhura Anton Yelchin ("Huff") as Pavel Chekov Eric Bana ( Black Hawk Down) as Nero (the villain) Ben Cross ( The Exorcist: The Beginning) as Sarek (Spock's father) Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson (Spock's mother) Bruce Greenwood ( Thirteen Days) as Christopher Pike (the Enterprise's captain before Kirk) Leonard Nimoy ("Star Trek" obviously) as old Spock Chris Hemsworth ("Home and Away") as George Kirk Jennifer Morrison ("House") as unknown Tyler Perry ( Diary of a Mad Black Woman) as the head of Starfleet Academy Directed by JJ Abrams (writer/producer/director of "Lost", "Alias", "Felicity", Cloverfield, Mission: Impossible III, Armageddon) Official teaser

Normally, I'm not a big fan of playing out a series of movies to death (Rocky 5 was a disaster but Balboa redeemed the series) but this one sounds pretty damn good. I usually can't picture the "replacement" actors in the original roles but I can see Damon as Kirk. Clean cut, good looking guy who always gets the girl. Romantic one minute and fighting aliens the next. Yep, he can do it.
And as soon as I saw Gary Sinise, well, this is a must see. The man is on my laminated list. I almost cried when I thought I couldn't do Mission:Space at Disney World anymore. Every night now, though, I pray at the Temple of the Green Side.

I really want them to make a Deep Space Nine movie. DS9 is my favorite Star Trek series. Heck, I just recently finished downloading all seven seasons of it. They could at least put a few of the characters in the movie. But, I don't think there's a chance as this is supposed to be a prequel. I am getting tired of the prequel frenzy but I have no qualms against reboots, especially after all my fears were smashed with how awesome Casino Royale was. Unfortunately, if they were ever to reboot Star Trek, the fans would go crazy. They want continuity. In fact, for that reason, I never watched Star Trek Enterprise past the first episode. But I love the direction they're going with this movie, casting big name, talented actors to play these iconic roles. One idea they need to get rid of, however, is including William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in the movie as Kirk and Spock in the future. Although used to great effect in Star Trek IV and First Contact, time travel is really played out in the Star Trek universe.
I remember laughing at the trailer for Rocky Balboa and couldn't believe they were making another one. Then I saw it and I was impressed. From what I've heard about Rocky V, it must be good Stallone ended the series on a high note rather than the very low of the fifth movie.
Now we get to see if Die Hard, Rambo, and Indiana Jones can go out on a high note (although Indiana Jones had already gone out very well as I love The Last Crusade). Oh, and that other trend: Naming the movies of old franchises something completely different from the franchise naming conventions. I'm talking about titling Die Hard 4 as Live Free or Die Hard and Rambo 4 as John Rambo.

I know you haven't seen the film yet SO NO ONE SPOIL THIS!!!!!!!!!!
NO ONE SPOIL THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO ONE SPOIL THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IS MY POINT ACROSS? DON'T SPOIL THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You might change your mind about prequels after you've seen The Departed.
About the naming conventions. That's a toughie. I can almost gurantee that your father doesn't know the full titles of the two Pirates of the Caribbean films.

I'm not talking about the subtitles, I'm talking about straight out changing the names. Especially in the Rambo series.
First Blood Rambo: First Blood Part II Rambo III John Rambo
Then you have the Jack Ryan movies The Hunt for Red October Patriot Games Clear and Present Danger The Sum of All Fears (and this one is a prequel but yet uses modern technology)

The Jack Ryan series is understandable. I'm wondering if Clancy made it a point to have the films titled the same as his books. The one Clancy novel I want to see made is Without Remorse and Jack Ryan isn't even in that one. The story of John Clark.
I can kind of see the Rambo stuff. First Bood wasn't that big of a hit so they wanted to tie that one into this one because audiences might not know there even was a First Blood film. Then II was such a blockbuster they just went with Rambo and added the III. Then the character has a life of its own so now John Rambo. It's all about pushing the movie and making money.

I still hate the title Live Free or Die Hard. It also means I'll have the three Die Hard movies together under "D" in my collection and then the fourth one all by itself under "L"

Heck no. I'm very particular. The closest I get to going out of order is for something like the Indiana Jones or Lord of the Rings movies. Since they all start with the same title, I just put them in the order they're supposed to go. Like I have The Two Towers before The Return of the King. But that's as far as I go

Yes, he's that bad. He even has them cataloged. Back when he lived with us, we'd bring home a new tape (sorry, it's quite a few years) and within fifteen minutes the list of movies in our home was updated. Film title, main stars, year of release, and I believe there was running time as well. What do you think woudl happen? His mother is an accountant and his father is more anal retentive than me. (The silver Sharpie incident).

DVD Aficionado takes care of all that for me. All I do is just search for the movie and add it to the list. Done.
Back to the topic of Star Trek XI. Paramount has officially announced it will come out around Christmas of 2008

I didnt want to start a new topic for this, so I'm resurrecting this topic that really had nothing to do with it. I saw the trailer on youtube for the next Rambo movie. It looks a lot more graphic than previous installments. I mean we all expect Rambo to be violent but we never saw body parts hacked off or ripped off. Also interesting was Stallone always had a shirt on. I mean, he just got done with Rocky and he was fairly cut in that. Most images I have of Rambo are him running around with no shirt on with the compound bow strapped on his back. Ah well. I wanna see how big the Rambo signature knife will be this go-around. Rambo 2 had a decent one, and then the Rambo 3 knife was ridiculously cool. Huge blade, big wooden handle. Where do they go from there... the next step up is a machete or a sword.

Yeah, I saw that trailer awhile ago and my jaw dropped. I now know you can turn a human into hamburger using a .50 cal at close range... Heck, wouldn't you want to wear a shirt in the jungle? No telling what the heck will attach itself to you

Yeah, but it's Rambo... the scenery's only a few hundred miles from where the 2nd movie took place, and he didnt wear a shirt through most of that.

Of course, Stallone did want to shoot Rocky and Rambo pretty much back-to-back so he wouldn't have to bulk up twice so I don't know why he's wearing a shirt in John Rambo. Maybe he shucks it later.

Drag and drop the URL onto the location bar.
I'm pretty sure waffleimages is an SA-only product and only allows hotlinking from SA.
