LeBron James has reportedly asked for a $1 million bonus to perform in the slam dunk contest. There was a time when being selected to do something was an honor. Now, it's all about the bling you can buy.

I've been saying basketball players are spoiled brats.

spoiled brats who dont go to college to recognize the worth of a hard earned dollar. I got respect for some of the players and i can see why there are those that skip college, but they arent learning the values of living poor for 4 or more years.

It may be a punkass thing to do, but LeBron's a lot better than a lot of the thugs that play in the NBA these days.

Kind of a low standard to live up to. So, being the best thug amongst a bunch of thugs is a good thing, I guess.

Right. Exactly. He may not be a role model, but as far as NBA players go, he's darn close.

but look at the San Antonio Spurs; youll never find a nicer team. They continually help out the community, and give back in several ways (not through fines like the Pacers or Pistons). Hell, the Admiral, David Robinson, is now a preacher and his protoge, TIm Duncan, might be the most mild mannered player there ever was, though he continually shows up to play everyday. That dude commands my respect.

All-Star competitions are a bonus themself. If you want money to perform, you're a thorn in the side of the whole ceremony of the thing. You're there because the fans want to see you play, not because you should get paid to do it. If it's in your contract ahead of time, good for you, otherwise, quit your whining and do your job. </soapbox>

Damn right. If it was me, I'd be honored to be in an All-Star event. All this incentive crap... meh. There's too much of that. I can see getting an incentive for winning the Super Bowl or making the playoffs or even for getting to the All-Star game, but $1 million? Get real. More like a few thousand extra, in my opinion.
I hate athletes. So much for playing because they love the game.
