So...today I got criticized...I think.

This girl wrote in about how irresponsible my porn opinion was....except it wasn't my opinion. She complained about how horrible it was I supported porn addiction. Um, when did I say that? In fact, I'm pretty sure I said that wasn't good, but infrequent porn is okay. Didn't I?

So I'm going to write her a sweet email saying I appreciate her feedback.

BUT if any of you (cuz I'd love to see it happen) would like to write her AND comment on the website about um did she even READ the article, I'd appreciate it. Or send a letter to the editor who chose not to tell me about this so I was blindsided today.

But you don't have to so I'll just leave it up here and you can let me know. Then I can give you the info.

Grrr...if people are going to criticize they should criticize things that actually exist.

I sent her an email:

I wanted to write and tell you how much I appreciated your feedback on my column. It's very important to me to get different views and I agree with you on your points.

If my article had been about porn addiction and not on the mislabeling of a porn addict, your points would have been included in the column.

I am so sorry if you were offended by the misunderstanding. I simply did not go deeper into the subject by talking about addiction. My subject was the pornography viewer who was NOT addicted. It's why I stated porn addiction was real and dangerous.

I enjoyed your letter, though, and hope you continue to take an interest in helping to promote education by using the BG News as a forum for healthy debate.

And looking at the column again, I have to admit the title of it makes it seem like I'm saying addiction is harmless fun. Unfortunately, I don't see headlines until it's in the paper. I don't write them.

Kind of like my transgender article that had the headline that said 'Unprotected Sex'. Considering it has nothing to do with sex and I knew that, it was a bit awkward seeing that headline. Smiley

Hopefully we can continue to correspond over issues like this. I really did appreciate and agree with your points.

You're very articulate. Ever consider journalism?

Good luck and thanks again,

Chandra

Wow - you were very gracious.  Did Chris slip you some happy pills?   Grin

Don't be that hard on your editor (no pun intended with the subject being porn).  That's his/her job.  To sell the story.  The National Enquirer (is that still around?) has a front page headline of "Aliens Land In Nevada See Page 6!!!!"  And it turns out that a group of Germans decided to relocate there.  People Magazine just blasted all over its cover that Tyra Banks, at 161 pounds, was fat.  It's the pull in.

You in NO way, said anything to support porn addiction.  I thought you did a great job about explaining how "porn" can be enjoyed by people.  Rich's brother gave him a whole box of porn tapes.  They were in the closet for whenever Rich wanted (without me because I saw one and didn't think it was that great).  We had a fantasy football draft over here with a couple of friends and dragged that box out.  I was so laughing at the guys and their reactions.  I wasn't offended, I thought it was funny.  No one went home and then watched porn every night of the week for the rest of his life.

I've been to the Playboy Club in Phoenix.  I've read Playboy.  I have to read Maxim first before Rich.  Yeah, right.  We're porn addicted.

I'd write to the woman or to your editor but I think the last name would be a dead giveaway.

LOL. I knew you would. Marrying Chris had to be the worst PR move ever. Wink)

WOW!

Sweet girl! She replied right away and was so nice about everything. She was so concerned I would take offense because she's a fan of my columns.

Yay, very cool and I have someone to bounce ideas off of now. Wink
