That hasn't happened to me yet. Just a painfully low FPS (20ish), use to be 350-400. Stupid Micro$oft...

Off Topic: I get around 60-100 (sucks)
On Topic: Vista probably cant read the certain player skins. It shouldn't be a big issue unless paintballs and/or splats are messed up too.

I'm using Vista and the only problem with mine is the FPS. Cade, what video card do you have?

Hahaha, my graphics card... Nvidia geforce fx go5200 32mb.. Runs any game I've put on it even warrock almost all high. And on the desktop things run fine with transparency. With some tweaking to graphics settings on DPB2 I can get about 70+. Though its weird only DPB2 seems to take the largest performance hit. Waiting to try Warrock and see what happens. Vista drivers for gfx card are pathetic though the newest one I got is significantly better tha nthe last as in terms of performance. Blah, blah, blah, blah....

Well yes my graphics card sucks. But it ran everything else fine in xp. I know there is supposed to be a performence hit, but right now it seems largly attributed from the drivers. I could install my old driver with the modded inf and it runs better. But then aero doesn't work. So yes gfx card sucks and could be better (will upgrade to 64mb in future), and the drivers suck and the couls be way better, more features and more performance like the old drivers.

64 WHOLE MB? I would have spent the money on a better graphics card instead of vista, assuming you'll be doing some gaming.

Curious, does Vista have a 'classic windows' setting? What is the logic behind Microshaft insistence on loading bubbly baubles as a default? "Look at what we can do!" Not impressed. 64 Meg card will not slice bread, or even cut cheese. It is worth mentioning...each one of us would have performed 'White Men Can't Jump' naked in Mobile, Alabama for the Klu Klux Klan just to have a 64 meg card 9-10 years ago. I am looking into what is going to be required in 2-3 years from now. Suggestions? Cade, (Nice to meet you) Is cost an issue?

When it comes to computers on not much of a hard core gamer. I only have one game on my computer that isnt free. So the gfx card isn't a huge issue at the moment. Im curious what you mean by classic environment? You can change it so it looks like windows 2000. And yes I do understand just how bad 32 and 64mb are just my computer was free. My dad owned it then it broke he got a new one and I took this one home. Obviously I fixed it. Yes, I would say cost is an issue, I'm 14 and my parents don't have alot of money so I save up for little upgrades. This computer had on 256MB ram and no intergrated wireless card when I got it. I'll probably install xp seperate for games since most aren't yet compatible. I miss trackmania nations...

I have a AMD 3800+ dual core 64bit X2 Processor with 2gigs for ram shared with 512meg Nvidia 6100 (onboard).
I can barely get 40 fps in WOW, Quake 4 or BF2.
All open_gl and oddly Americas Army, DDO and Tiger Woods '06(online) get Superior numbers 220-300 in similar scenarios (well obviously not the golf game, but still racks up the FPS) Any suggestions?

Is that what er33t thinks about while idle on IRC? Me? I am honored and worried for you. Instead of sending a boy messenger Taco be man and find a way to contact me. What is sadder my comments or the fact you kept a log? Eh? Thought so. But thanks I said I am honored you spent that much time of your life tracking quotes.
Is he banned now too, like you Skater? You guys really need to address your obsession with me.
Would someone please explain to me the answer to the question I asked. Sorry but I have dedicated zero hours of my live to this.
Thanks!

Lol, Loial. Well do you play those games with all high settings? If so 40 fps would be expected on games like bf2 or quake4, don't know about wow though. I would try program like nhancer where you can tweak several graphics options for any game. Anti-aliasing takes a huge hit to your fps. But I am surprised you get such high frame-rates in americas-army. I so wish my couldn't could play bf2 without exploding, lol.

Oooh, new features in Vista.
I actually had something very similar to this happen with my ATI drivers (in XP). I think it's just going to be a while before all the kinks are worked out. The main problem is that Paintball2 uses OpenGL, while Vista tries to shove DirectX down everyone's throats. A vid_restart might fix the textures (just type it at the console).
Zorchenhimer: Sounds like it might be running OpenGL through a Direct3D wrapper or worse yet, software emulation. Try shutting off the 3D desktop effects and whatnot. Are you running paintball2 in a window? If so, try it fullscreen.

Jits, got it figured out. In the nVidia control panel the slider was set to "Quality" instead of "Performance". That helped out a lot. I'm getting 250-300 now, still not as good as it was with XP but better than before. And yes, I am running it fullscreen.

That's actually happened to me once, on XP with my Nvidia card. A vid_restart fixed it. And sometimes textures become the player's textures, but I think you said that had something to do with texture hashing.
