I hope the cops who arrested her get their dicks shot off and the nursing supervisor can choke on her crucifix.

Damn it! When will people learn that not everyone feels the same way they do? That stupid bitch is nothing. She shouldn't be a nurse because she's a worthless piece of slime.

For anyone to go through that trauma, not be able to be somewhere safe for TWO DAYS, and have an unsympathetic shrew whore of a nurse on top of that?

OMG, I'm just going to lose it and I plan on being in Florida next year. I'm keeping this article and taking a road trip while I'm there and going off on someone.

Stupid fucking people...

Maybe I'm an unsympathetic asshole - probably - but I agree with the people at AnandTech, where I first saw this story. My biggest gripe with this is the nursing supervisor who refused the morning after pill because of her religion. That's bullshit. She denies a woman a legal drug because of her religion? That ought to be illegal. She should be fired.

However, I do agree with the poor woman being arrested. She had an outstanding warrant, bottom line. She'd have gotten arrested if she was pulled over for having a busted tail light. It's no doubt a series of unfortunate events but she had what, like 4 years or something to clear up the offense on her record?

The nurse denying the pill is inexcuseable.  I go back to this all the time.  Reverse the situation.  I'm a guard at the jail.  I'm an atheist.  A prisoner wants to pray and I tell her she can't because it's against my beliefs.  Yeah, that would work.  I'd have so many religious group involved so fast it would make my head spin.

Super - you are correct that the woman should have been arrested.  But I don't think she should have been thrown in a cell when she was just tramatized.  You don't get over a rape like it's a broken arm.  The charge was four years old, the woman obviously wasn't going to cause a problem.  Why not detain her in an interrogation room or something?  Still charge her put not from behind bars.  That's a second tramatic experience right there.  This woman was humiliated twice that day.  I'll be surprised if she ever trusts anyone ever again.

Vengence - when we go to Florida, you'll see one sign for Tampa and that'll be it.  We turn off well before then.

Yeah, I would agree with that. Yes, she should have been arrested, yes, she should have been charged, no, she should not have been tossed in a cell, and yes, she should have been allowed to get a morning after pill if she wanted it.

Wow is all I can say!!!

Fuck No I don't agree with the woman being arrested, at least not in this manner or as a priority.

1.  The young lady was RAPED and that is the priority issue at hand.

2.  We have a 21 year old college student, a good sign this young lady is on the right track in life and not a criminal.

3.  The charge was failure to appear on a grand theft ACCUSATION when she was 17...

Hello!! She's a fucking MINOR and a warrant issued on a 4 year old charge against a MINOR for an ACCUSATION takes precedence over this young 21 year old being victimized by RAPE??

What a pathetic excuse for a police department and that nurse should not only NEVER practice again she should be the one to have had to endure the rape.

NO person, be it a Doctor, Policeman, Fireman or NURSE has the right to deny or give service based on their own fuckin personal religious beliefs!!

You tell me which is worse: A Failure to appear on an ACCUSATION while being a minor child OR the RAPE of a young 21 year old lady who is in college trying to better her life as a productive citizen???

At worse,  Get all the necessary information you need from the young lady and deal with the RAPE issue immediately then deal with the rest at a later date.

I do think it was extremely wrong to throw her in a cell. How often have serial killers been locked up in a hospital to get treatment but yet they can't do the same for a rape survivor? Tampa PD or whatever suburb's PD she was arrested in is going to have its PR department getting headaches from complaints across the country.

You know, good point, elmono.

Why the hell didn't they just post a guard outside a room at the hospital to keep her there until they got things straightened out?

Or even just had someone sitting outside her home?

I don't think anyone should ever have to go through a rape, but I do disagree with the idea that this woman should have been jailed. I understand the arrest warrant, but that doesn't mean it should be acted upon.

This woman already knew NOTHING about it or she wouldn't have gone to the police. And RIGHT THERE is why she shouldn't have been arrested.

Good job, you fucking cop morons! You've just made it open season for the rapists. Figure out who has outstanding warrants and then go get 'em because now they won't go to the cops.

Fucking pieces of shit. I'm beyond pissed right now. How idiotic do these people have to get? Where the hell was the rape crisis center? They should have beaten down the jail door!

On the opposite side of this, as horrible as it was for this woman to be jailed, I think she may in a weird way have appreciated it.

She doesn't know that guy. She doesn't know where he is. And being in jail she KNEW he couldn't get her and nobody else could, either. Sad, but that's probably the direction her mind went on some level.

I fear to wonder what is running through this young woman's double traumatized mind.

The mental hell this young person will have to go through to learn how to cope or deal with the rape alone is more than enough.  Now she has to suffer all the repercussions of being treated as a common criminal instead of a victim.  Now she is a double victim.

How sad!

Vengeance brings up a good point.  The woman was given the first part of the pill.  She was taken to a clinic.  Why didn't she have a rape counselor provided?  Let's take a step back.  How the HELL could that doctor who treated her for the rape allow the cops to take her to jail?  Maybe he/she didn't think the woman was going to be thrown into a cell but damn it, it's their job to do no harm to the patient.  That doctor could have said the woman needed further treatment.  Wonder how that doctor is sleeping at night?

The doctor wasn't there.

Apparently she was in the car with the cops and trying to help them find the scene of the crime when they were told about the warrant.
