"Isaiah Washington is on the verge of being fired from hit TV show Grey's Anatomy, according to media reports in the US. Washington sparked a public backlash last week when he denied calling co-star TR Knight "a f****t" during a press conference at the Golden Globe Awards. And now, according to E! Online reporter Kristin Veitch, executives at ABC are looking for ways to sack the troubled star, who plays Dr. Preston Burke on the show. She writes on her blog, "(I) just received word from a highly placed source within the Touchstone/ABC family that ABC and Disney executives are currently considering the option of firing Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy, effective immediately, without having him appear in any kind of farewell episode. According to this reliable source, if the network does follow through with this option, the producers are likely to run a full-screen announcement at the beginning of the first Burke-less episode that announces Isaiah Washington is no longer part of the show. I'm also told by various sources that the loss of Preston Burke is not an easy task for Grey's writing staff to deal with, given that he has a major storyline (including a life-changing event) coming in the next few episodes that air during February sweeps. Those episodes have already been shot." ABC issued a statement last week calling Washington's behavior "unacceptable" and he has since issued an apology and met with gay leaders."
I think this is stupid. Let him make amends. Once again, people are people. We make mistakes and frequently say or do something we regret later and did not mean to say. People are being such stupid drama queens with this. How about asking TR Knight? This should only be between him and Washington. If Washington apologized and Knight accepts it, then it's done. It's over. There should be nothing else.

Completely agreed. If they're fine, then this should just be dropped.

Another case of people just not willing to let an issue die. "The troubled star"? How the hell is he "troubled". I don't watch Grey's Anatomy and never even heard of Isaiah Washington until that thing with Patrick Dempsey which they patched up.
Maybe ABC and Disney (and you all know I'm a Disney freak) should just sentence this "troubled star" to being at Disney World for the first weekend in June and be forced to wear a red shirt.

The first weekend of June is the unofficial "official" Gay Days at Disney World. Gay people and their supporters are encouraged to wear red T-shirts as a sign of solidarity. This is NOT an official Disney event (like ESPN the Weekend, Star Wars Weekend, Super Soaps Weekend, etc.). But it happens every year. Don't even get me started on the posts of people being "afraid" their children will be exposed to all this.

Now I freaking heard everything. Isaiah Washington is in rehab for using the word "faggot".
Well, that just puts the icing on the cake. I guess all the older people in the country who use "colored" instead of "black" (or is it African-Amercian now?) should go into rehab. Anyone who says "oriental" instead of "Asian" should go into rehab. Anyone who says "chairman" instead of "chairperson" (which I think is stupid) should go into rehab.
And personally, how do you now politically corrent refer to a person who likes another person of the same sex? Homosexual? Gay? Lesbian? If I refered to a female friend who has a relationship with another female as gay, it that OK? I wouldn't say faggot but what is the "correct" term?
But I guess I wouldn't have to worry about it. Everyone is going to be in rehab soon anyway.

Homosexual or lesbian would be the correct term. Oriental and colored are terms that have a certain place in time. 'Faggot' has always been an offensive term. I think sensitivity needs to be addressed with him.
But I think if he has strong negative feelings regarding homosexuals, then he has the right to be an asshole in private.
But if the companies decide to fire him based on hatred related language then I would understand. Just like any other business, these things should not be tolerated. I'm not Black, but I shouldn't have to deal with a co-worker who drops the N word.
One claim of a hostile work environment by any employee, actor or not, and ABC and Disney will be in for a lot of crap.
On the business end of it, though, they'd be total morons to get rid of him at all, quick or not. Hopefully they'll find a happy balance.
