Clear channel probably had a good reason for some of the songs, but I'm not sure about most of them. At least it does note that these songs were banned, but most were returned to the play list gradually.

Down by 311 was banned? WTF? That's the stupidest thing ever. I bet it was just because of the song title because that song has nothing to do with planes crashing.

That's the stupidest list I have ever seen. I swear most of those songs were banned because of the song titles and not the songs themselves

Hate to rain on the parade, but according to snopes, that list is bogus

Don't hate me, I saw this posted on another forum and the snopes link followed shortly after Smiley

I don't hate you. Glad to know it was bogus, though. I checked for a 'rumor' status, but didn't see anything. Snopes sounds like a good site.

At least elmono won't be going nuts trying to figure out why anyone would ban a 311 song.

Snopes is about as good as it gets for debunking rumors. If it's on there, I'd say it's a pretty good source.

As for the 311 song, if it would have been banned, it would have been for a similiar reason to Drowning Pool's "Bodies," which was pulled from the radio playlists after 9/11. I definitely agree with that one, though. "Let the bodies hit the floor" hit way too close to home after the events of 9/11. A song with the title "Down" would have been too similar to the falling deaths on 9/11. I can understand why it would have been yanked from playlists but I also think that's a bit extreme. I definitely agreed with pulling "Bodies," though.

you know, i guess i must be an insensitive jerk, but i never really associated any music with being inappropriate or bad after the events.  i guess even though the country was in a state of shock, my listening habits remained the same.
I tell you what though, there was not a single heavy metal or hard rock act who did extremely well in the year following which has been attributed to people wanting to listen to something that wasnt so disheartening.  It made a lot of artists think about what direction to record for a little while.
I think the second Disturbed album was an excellent example of this.  I think that though they have grown, they also did not keep some of the elements from before because the anger off the first album couldnt have remained appropriate... that and dave draiman's doctor said if you dont stop screaming all the time, youll lose your voice....
it is good to remain sensitive, but i guess since i dont listen to the radio, i didnt even notice.

I remember there was a little problem with a certain song 311 was going to release on their Enlarged to Show Detail 2 bonus CD. It was a song called Bomb the Town and the song was due to be released soon after 9/11. 311 went ahead and kept the title, saying it was about bombing the town with music and had absolutely nothing to do with bombing as in a destructive force

You're not an insensitive jerk...unless I am, too...and that is entirely possible.  Smiley

No, I've never had a problem with music. It's not like my listening habits changed(radio wise) because everything on the radio was tributes and songs to make you think or cry or remember and all that jazz.

In all honesty though, I don't remember ever putting a CD down after 9/11 because it might be 'inappropriate'. Music tastes don't change over something like that in my opinion. Personal traumas cause things like that to change sometimes, but not 9/11. The only big thing was that everyone really seemed to like 'God Bless the USA' a whole lot more...until they remembered that they didn't believe in God.  Grin
