mIRC is also not the only IRC client available. It is probably just the most popular. gaim, trillian (I think), Opera, and some versions of Netscape have IRC clients built in. There are also several IRC applications such as X-Chat, pIRCh (does anybody use that anymore?), and a gazillion and a half console IRC apps like Bitch-X and IRCII.

Yes Trillian supports IRC... Too Add, mIRC is the most popular because it is the most stable, easy to use, modifyable and user friendly IRC client available. Khaled would love me for saying that!! LOL I also knew a lot of people that stood religiously by pIRCh so I'd bet yes... never actually tried it though.

Looks like the pIRCh website doesn't even exist anymore, but apparently there's a Vortec IRC that was inspired by it here: http://vortecirc.com/index.php

Tempting but I'm comfortable with mIRC... Your opinion?

*shrug* I didn't really look at it. I've already got too many custom scripts and things set up for mIRC, so it would be too much effort for me to switch.

I mean a better scripting language, not better scripts. There was some client I found that had java-based scripting, and it was okay. Turned out you had to pay for it and such, though.

Java is evil anyway... scripting it's not bad for (same with vbscript), but anything beyond that is just ugly.
