That server build I linked before has a major issue.  I went to check my usual list for potential cheaters, and there were over 14 thousand new entries.  One of the (incomplete) global login features doesn't have a build check.  Not much time for explanation, but please get this new build up (or revert to an older build) ASAP: http://dplogin.com/files/servers/gamei386.so.gz

Fortunately I had pretty recent source on this laptop.  I've fixed the issue (I hope) and also adjusted the version number.

Well, there was a "SkateR" playing, but it looks like it was Warhead - 207.172.56.49.

And thanks, Bain.

Thank you.  Only one left is the OTB server now, I think.

14,000 instances of cheating stopped ≠ to 14,000 instances of cheating recorded. (Huh)

I don't get it Jitspoe, would you mind briefing me (pm if needed) so I can shut up and stop using tautologies. Man needs '<' or '>' to make things unequivocal.

Thanks.

Why is it so important that you know?

I was given a new gamei386.so binary in attempts to fix my shazam33 problems from the other thread.  I installed it, as did PiCaSSo and OTB.  jitspoe returned and found that there were over 14,000 false-positive cheating reports because of a Build 17 cheat detection feature he accidentally left enabled when he made me the binary.  Basically everyone that joined one of our servers was being reported as a cheater for whatever jitspoe accidentally left enabled.  No reason to raise the terror alert level.

It looks like you and I are the only ones on the ball X as our servers are the only ones that have the latest build.

OTB hasn't updated and Jitspoe hasn't even updated the EV1 servers yet.  Only the GRaFFiTi servers, Ch1ll and of course your user's sub servers.

Curious, is everything running ok on your servers with this latest build so far?

Strange,  Wonder what the difference is between our servers...  If you have a chance PM me with some of the problems you're having.

SWEET.

(Bain)
1. Why is it so important to know why I want to know to the point of asking?

2. What do you think I think that makes that knowledge important?

3. Do you care what my anwser is?

4. I did ask first. But, im not a dick so......Its important to me because allowing cheaters to cheat is not logical. I am missing something. Just a 'im on top of it and stfu Loial would suffice"

5. I dont want to know why this 'holee' crap happened. I am wondering why people are not kicked live.

6. Knowing is half the battle.

7. Least important and I acutally forgot till now, I donate 300 a year to host. (jits ill be looking for ye tonight for a little payback sort of, yarr!)

Peace and thanks for Bainer.

This thread basically indicates that. He's on top of it, you can stfu now.

1. Why is it so important to know why I want to know to the point of asking?

This thread is directed towards a couple server providers specifically, 95% of the people here aren't involved with the back-end dedicated server administration when it comes to binaries, including yourself.  I believe that jitspoe left enough information in the main post for most people who care to fill in the blanks.

2. What do you think I think that makes that knowledge important?

The kind of answers you're always looking for are probably benefiting cheaters in the long run.  We could draw this topic out into a long drawn out discussion concerning the logistics of GBL detection, reporting and enforcement but I think obscurity is the only thing the GBL has going for it right now (besides cheaters who are unlucky enough to have true static ips or small unique ranges).

3. Do you care what my anwser is?

Not if it's the whole "knowledge is power" bit.

Going to merge these two questions.  I think this topic is best left up for discussion in its own discussion.  I personally like the approach because it catches the most cheaters and allows us to publically humiliate them on the forums Wink

7. Least important and I acutally forgot till now, I donate 300 a year to host. (jits ill be looking for ye tonight for a little payback sort of, yarr!)

It's great that a couple server admins shell out serious cash, jitspoe and mappers work sleepless nights just so oldschoolers and kids too poor to afford WoW can play a great game.  We just need to figure a way to translate this into some kind of tax write off, y'know.

Dont be so overzealous with my stfu..read on.

Where does it indicate that he would rather wait to catch cheaters then to prevent them from connecting, basically (lol that word)?

I am wondering why people are not kicked live.
If this were the case, a large number of people would have been kicked due to the false positives from a bug (or small oversight) in the server build this thread is about.

Also, immediate kicks means immediate feedback as to whether or not a cheat is detected.

Example1 (current system): Mr. Cheat finds a fancy wallhack.  Mr. Cheat tries it out at school/work/friend's house under an anonymous name to see if it works.  It does.  After a couple days of testing, Mr. Cheat uses the wallhack on his own machine under his own name.  Uh-oh, looks like that cheat wasn't so great after all -- It was detected and now he has been exposed and global banned.

Example 2 (what you suggest): Mr. Cheat finds a fancy wallhack.  Mr. Cheat tries it out at school/work/friend's house under an anonymous name to see if it works.  He is immediately banned from the server.  Oops,  Mr. Cheat looks around for another cheat that isn't picked up.
