Former NASCAR driver and now NASCAR commentator Benny Parsons died this morning from complications of lung cancer.  He was 65.  BP was the 1973 Winston Cup Champion and the 1975 winner of the Daytona 500.  Even after BP was diagnosed with cancer in July, he attempted every week to continue covering the races.  At the time, he said he wasn't going to let cancer interfere with his life.  Unfortunately, his battle has ended.

Benny Parsons, class guy, great driver, and he will be missed tremendously.

As sad as this is, for about the past month I had been going on to Jayski expecting this...

Goodbye, BP. It was nice knowing you. You will be missed greatly.

That's two great drivers just this month to die from complications from cancer

Perhaps they should have ridden bikes instead...

I don't think they got cancer from the cars themselves

And if wishes were horses, beggers would ride.  Love you jitspoe and I'm sure you are feeling the effects of being in Omaha but different times for different folks.  It's a hard, hard lose for NASCAR.  And I agree with elmono (not just because he's my son).  At trivia tonight, that subject was brought up.  Closed garage, running car.  No one thought of the effects.  It was the 70s.  When did that warning come out?  And only on cigarette packages?  Like the coal miners - you did your job as best that you could.

This just really upsets me. I don't know what to do on Daytona 500 Sunday. I think I'll wear all black.  Cry

Well, you told me the NASCAR Creed.  "The race must go on".  They came back the next week after Senior died.  They came back the next week after the Hendrick helicopter crash.

The flyover should have two missing men.

The week after Earnhardt died, a DEI car (Steve Park) won the race. The week after the Hendrick crash, Johnson won the race. So does this mean Biffle (who was discovered by Parsons) will win the Daytona 500? Should be an interesting preshow

That's it - I'm taking Biffle with my first provisional choice!
