I still think it's comical that you're going to the place where several forum members lived for a good long time.

If you have a chance, try and get to Picallo Pete's. Best damn place to go for a steak. And cheap, too. For your meal, you get a salad with excellent dressing, soup of the day (the beef and barley is great), the entree, choice of a side dish, side of pasta. I don't think anything there is over $15. Get there right at 5:00, though. By 6:00, the blue hairs have arrived in abundance and there's usually at least an hour's wait. The waitresses (no waiters here) are saucy and quick. You'll be out of there, contentedly stuffed, in less than an hour.
Elmono can recommend La Mesa which is actually in Bellevue. Good Mexican food.
Damn, now I'm hungry!

I'd feel I didn't do my duty to recommend Mister C's to anyone going to Omaha, too. It's an Italian steak and pasta place. Very good. Mister C's is the best in the world, hehe.

They just tore down the old "used to be a steakhouse" La Mesa and put up a new one. There are at least 2 more locations in the Omaha area though.

Forgot about Mister C's. Just take your rifle with you. Not exactly in the best of locations. Warren Buffet's house is somewhere close to 60th and Dodge, near the UNO campus. Can't tell which one it actually is. Looks just like any other $150,000 house in the neighborhood. If you want some excellent nightime entertainment, check out the Omaha Community Playhouse. I saw probably 50 performances there and haven't been disappointed once. Top notch actors from the area. Henry Fonda and Dorothy McGuire got their start here. Oh - and there's gambling right across the river in Council Bluffs.

20070116am0455 --- Best damn place to go for a steak. I guess it isn't widely known that I'm the forums resident vegetarian. For your meal, you get a salad Though that sounds about right. I'm not really a salad fan, but that's about all I can eat at a steakhouse. So I'm here in Omaha. Man, I wish John hadn't been so right about Chicago sucking for delays. We got pushed back like 5 hours. Didn't get to the hotel until midnight when it was supposed to have been around 7:00. They waited as long as they could at Charlotte (maybe 30-45 minutes), but the terminal was needed, so they had to load us up on the plane and then we just sat out there for about an hour before we could even take off to go TO Chicago. When we finally got there, our connecting flight was pushed back about 2 hours, so we wandered around, found a quiet spot to charge my laptop and wait. The terminals were nuts. People piled everywhere. Nowhere near enough seating since there were like 5 flights worth of people waiting where there should have been one. We headed back to the terminal about half an hour before the flight was supposed to leave. Departure time bumped up to 7:50... Then, no surprise since there was another flight at that gate leaving at practically the same time, they bumped it up to 8:03. Look away, and all of a sudden they sneak a 3 in where the 0 was. 8:33. 8:50... The time just kept going up. If we would have known that ahead of time, we wouldn't have bothered to go back to the crowded terminal. I don't think we boarded until 9:00PM central (10:00 our time). What's crazy is there was another flight to Omaha scheduled for 8:00 (like two and a half hours AFTER ours was scheduled), and it left before us. But we're here now. I finally got high speed Internet access at the hotel -- I was going to hook it up last night but didn't see anywhere to hook it up. They use the power outlets. I had heard of that for networking before, but never actually seen it. Last night I figured I was only going to get 6-7 hours of sleep as it was, so the last thing I probably needed was Internet access.

Just to let you know - Picallo's is very Italian based so they have plenty of pasta as well.
A veggie on the board. I didn't know that. I have to fool Rich with a meal and then tell him after that it didn't have any meat in it. I'm not a 100% veggie person but I don't have to have cow flesh every meal.
Enjoy your time in Omaha. If you have any questions, there is plenty of advice from us.

That sucks that I was right about O'Hare being bad for delays. Too bad you weren't going through Midway. It's a LOT smaller than O'Hare. Hehe, yeah, Mister C's is a steak house but they have a lot of Italian pasta - and the garden outside is pretty sweet, too; it looks like it's srtaight from The Godfather. It's awesome. I know you'd love it since you love pasta. If you don't have a chance to make it there or whatever, I took pictures when I was there in 2004 and can show them to you/the rest of the forum. I'm a huge fan of the restaurant so I gotta pimp it out where I can

I consider Bellevue my hometown, too. It was the only place I lived before 2000 save for about 3 years in Fairfax at the end of the 80s.

It never happened for us. Except for the time in Fairfax. After 10th grade, my dad had the opportunity to retire, I think, but decided to go back to the squadron so I could finish high school before moving. Then he retired at the beginning of the summer of 2000, and we moved.

They will. Guaranteed. The bread there is delicious, too. And make sure you take your camera and take some pictures of the garden outside cuz it's really quite spiffy.
